Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM filed September 21, 2022

NHTSA complaint #1842359 (ODI reference 11485600) concerns a 2012 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN and was filed on September 21, 2022. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 16, 2022. The report was geocoded to Tennessee based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as fuel/propulsion system, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same DODGE GRAND CARAVAN cohort independently describe similar fuel/propulsion system failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Sounds like a machine gun when trying to start. Have to turn key completely off to get the sound to stop. Not starting sometimes and cutting off when driving. Lost all power on a main highway including my brakes and power steering. Completely shut off. Also the back air AC doesn't work at times. Seems to not have enough power to roll down windows at times and you can only use one window at a time. Battery, alternator, and starter test fine. Replaced relays and still same problem. Throwing code for not reaching coolant temp. Replaced thermostat gasket still throwing code. No other codes or lights showing up. Heard of an ignition switch and power train recall but when I put my vin in it says there are none.
