Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM filed September 9, 2022
NHTSA complaint #1839523 (ODI reference 11483614) concerns a 2012 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN and was filed on September 9, 2022. The owner reports the failure occurred on August 23, 2022. The report was geocoded to Pennsylvania based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as fuel/propulsion system, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same DODGE GRAND CARAVAN cohort independently describe similar fuel/propulsion system failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2012 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
2017 I purchased my car. I had several problems with the key lock and car starting. Immediately tried to return the car but dealer wouldnât allow it. I have now found out there were 2 recalls in 2017 I was not aware of this until now. Even though dodge has stated to me they were fixed as a consumer if my car was presenting issues so early on after these recalls I should have had a grace period to give the vehicle back if other issues were presented. Currently car is smoking on the drivers side with a heavy burning smell. Car is over heating as well as the car would not stop while I was driving it on8/23/22 in a mall. Car was shutting off a lot. I was under warantiy and took it to AAmco and found out there were transmission issues. My warranty company at the time let my car sitting at AAmco despite the major issue and refused to fix it as well as let my warranty expire. Now I am scared to drive this car concerned the vehicle wonât stop.
