Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about UNKNOWN OR OTHER filed January 11, 2020

NHTSA complaint #1636488 (ODI reference 11298635) concerns a 2015 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 and was filed on January 11, 2020. The owner reports the failure occurred on January 1, 2015. The report was geocoded to Colorado based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as unknown or other, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 cohort independently describe similar unknown or other failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL ON MY CHEVROLET TRUCK WHICH IS THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL AS THIS ONE. TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT FIXED. THEY SAID IT WASN'T RECALLED SO WE HAD TO PAY THE BILL. ISN'T THEIR A WAY TO FIND THE RECALL AND GET REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR BILL AND ALL THE ASSOCIATED COSTS? WE HAVE CALLED AND MADE A COMPLAINT TO NHTSA. NOTHING CAME OF IT. IT STILL IS A SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE REPAIRED WITH NO COST TO THE CUSTOMERS.
