The 2024VINFASTVF 8 carries 26 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 7 crashes, 0 fires, 1 injury, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2024 VF 8 is steering with 4 filings, followed by lane departure: assist (3) and power train (3). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 1 active recall campaign, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 1 investigation file overlapping the 2024 VF 8. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

The contact leased a 2024 VINFAST VF 8. The contact stated that upon pulling into the driveway with the rear wheels of the vehicle on the side of the roadway, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle unintendedly accelerated. The driver swerved and avoided the residence, and the vehicle crashed into a flowerpot. The vehicle then accelerated 70-80 ft. on the sidewalk, passed several residences, and the vehicle stopped. The air bags did not deploy. There was no injury sustained. No police report was filed. Additionally, the contact stated that while her sister was attempting to park downhill, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated temporarily and responded as needed. The contact also stated that while driving on the Golden Gate Bridge at an undisclosed speed and approaching a toll, the contact decelerated to 25 MPH, but the vehicle suddenly accelerated, and the passenger's side of the vehicle struck the guardrail. There were no warning lights illuminated. The air bags did not deplo

The contact's wife owns a 2024 VinFast VF8. The contact stated that while driving in a parking lot, attempting to park, and the brake was depressed, the vehicle kept moving. The vehicle collided with two other vehicles and then came to a stop. The contact stated that there were no injuries sustained, and medical attention was not sought. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where there has not been a diagnosis as of yet. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,500.

We have two VinFast VF8 vehicles, one with the VIN [XXX] (VF8 Black) and one with the VIN [XXX] (VF8 White). Both vehicles experienced the same problem with the electric power train at different times. The issue manifests itself as follows: The vehicle suddenly displays a "drive train malfunction error" on the center display, it then jerks a couple of times, loses all power, and stops. After that, it is not possible to put the transmission back into drive or reverse, only neutral or park. VF8 Black experienced this problem first on [XXX]. We contacted VinFast and asked for the vehicle to be serviced under warranty. VinFast picked up the car on 3/17/2025 and took it to their service center in Irvine, CA. There is no VinFast service center in San Diego, CA, were we live. VinFast returned the vehicle on 3/25/2025. The repair report stated "Technician road test with the same conditions as the customer was unable to duplicate. Technician also verified the cause with the engineering team
The forward collision warning keeps faulting. The software sends incorrect errors and shuts off some of the safety features when doing so. The steering wheel is stuck in the 'exit' position, meaning it's retracted and in the highest position, making it difficult to maneuver. Various alarms randomly sound for no reason. The car has had multiple software updates and the problems remain persistent.

While accelerating onto a highway, several systems faulted including the high voltage and 12v systems, which apparently cause the vehicle to shift into neutral and get stuck in the neutral position (while still on the highway) Several safety systems on the vehicle (such as forward collision avoidance) constantly fault and then reset themselves as well.

The left turn signal fails to activate when pressing down on the turn signal lever. Happens intermittently. Vinfast repair center says they can not duplicate the problem. Online forums report this is a widespread problem which Vinfast does not know how to repair. This is a major safety concern because when you press down on the lever you assume your turn signal is on and therefore you change lanes. But many times I'm changing lanes and the signal is not on. Therefore it could cause a collision with another vehicle.
The contact owns a 2024 Vinfast VF8. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an excessive squeaking sound coming from the front suspension. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 1,000.

While driving and starting to do a turn if you get to close to the line the car will jerk the steering wheel in the direction you are turning and there has been a multiple times it's almost put my car into a concrete wall. It has also jerk the wheel hard enough that its caused me to go out of my lane and almost crash into other cars on turns. I would say it has happen at least 30 times since taking ownership November 11, 2024

Vehicle did not slow down when in assistant driving mode. The vehicle was coming up on an intersection with a stoplight with two cars ahead of it. I had to apply breaks manually with the failure of the system slowing down fast enough. When I manually applied the brakes I pressed them hard after disengaging the driving assistant the car did not send any notifications following disengagement. The automatic emergency braking system also was not activated given that the vehicle had at minimum a cars length distance to stop. I did not receive an alert for the forward collision warning system even before applying brakes. I rear ended another car without any nonfictions to the car making impact as well. I commute on this road often as it is on the way to my job so I am familiar with the lights and intersections but was going further than usual which is why I decided to engage driving assistant.

The contact owns a 2024 Vinfast VF8. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the Lane Assist feature constantly jerked the vehicle back to the center of the lane. The contact stated that the safety feature was very sensitive and was active upon the slightest drift. The contact was able to manually turn off the feature upon start of the vehicle; however, the contact stated that the feature had become unable to access. A mobile service technician was sent to the contact's workplace, and the contact was informed that the repair needed to be performed at a service center. The contact stated that a service appointment was not scheduled in a timely manner and the contact had become fearful of driving the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,100.
