The 2023VINFASTVF 8 carries 75 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 4 crashes, 1 fire, 5 injuries, and 4 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2023 VF 8 is lane departure: assist with 11 filings, followed by steering (10) and electrical system (8). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 1 active recall campaign, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 1 investigation file overlapping the 2023 VF 8. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

I have had nothing but brake and suspension problems with my 2023 Vinfast VF8. The vehicle has been to the dealer on three occasions because of brake and suspension noises which prompted the dealer to replace the entire suspension system. However, my concern is with the vehicle's brakes. Under low speed turning with no brakes applied, the vehicle made a metal on metal grinding noise. The vehicle was in the dealer twice for this problem. The first time they put updated brake pads on the vehicle and let me know that the original pads were too thick. The problem continued and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer a little over two weeks ago for the same problem. This time they sanded the surface of the brake pads to avoid them from rubbing against the rotar. The tech at the dealer told me that he beleives the issue may be that the brake caliper does not open wide enough to allow the pad distance from the caliper. Their solution is to sand the pad down. One, is this safe, and two, what

Got my car back from service a couple months ago and it is still performing with errors. While driving in a specific lane on the freeway the car would try to pull my steering wheel to the other lane. VinFast stated an update is all is needed and the problem still is occurring. This car is dangerous. One example of this is the Pleasanton California incident.
On [XXX], [XXX] both my daughter and I were driving on [XXX] going East by [XXX] . We were rear ended by a driver under the influence. Upon impact the driver front seat and passenger front seat reclined down. We are unaware if this is a safety issue. However, we feel that we sustained additional injuries because of the seats reclining . INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When regenerative braking is active brake lights do not turn on causing vehicles behind you to come extremely close. The vehicle has extremely strong regenerative breaking. That should activate the brake lights.
When do you go does not detect lanes violently moves the steering wheel to try to maneuver you back into a lane. Iâm constantly turning this feature off because it has posed a risk of crash on multiple occasions
