TAMARA RECALL IN 2015 I WAS SOLD A 2007 TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK. AUGUST 10, 2017 I WAS NOTIFIED OF A POSSIBLY DEADLY DEFECT IN THE CAR THAT TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR SEVERAL YEARS BEFORE MY CAR WAS SOLD TO ME. THE FACT THE AUTO MANUFACTURER CHOSE TO PUT MY FAMILY'S LIVES IN JEOPARDY, AND IS ACTUALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATHS OF OTHERS, INSTEAD OF IMMEDIATELY NOTIFYING EVERY COMSUMER, BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO EAT THE COST OF OF THE MASSIVE RECALL, IS UNACCEPTABLY IMMORAL BEHAVIOR. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I WILL NO LONGER BE PURCHASING A CAR FROM THESE COMPANIES, AND I WILL SEEK A FULL REFUND ON THE PRICE I PAID FOR THE CAR, AND WILL SHOP ELSEWHERE. THEY KNEW ABOUT IT AND CONTINUED TO MAKE AND SELL THEM. THE SAFETY OF THE CONSUMER IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN COMPANY PROFITS.

MY LOCAL SERVICE DEALERSHIP - DUNNING TOYOTA IN ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN (734-997-7600) AT A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT REFUSED TO PERFORM RECALL BECAUSE THEY RESIDE IN ZONE C OF THE RECALL, DESPITE HAVING WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION, IT BEING AN URGENT SAFETY ISSUE AND THERE BEING CONFIRMED LOCAL AVAILABILITY OF THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT PART. SERVICE MANAGER ([XXX]) AND GENERAL MANAGER ([XXX]) FAIL TO RETURN REPEATED PHONE CALLS TO ADDRESS ISSUE. IN THE MEANTIME, NOBODY IS ABLE TO SIT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE SMALLER SIZE OF THE MODEL OF THE CAR - LOSING ONE PASSENGER SEAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE, ESPECIALLY FOR AN ADULT WHO WOULD NORMALLY SIT THERE INSTEAD OF THE BACK! WE HAVE HAD TO ADJUST HOW OUR FAMILY TRAVELS FOR OVER SIX MONTHS. IT HAS BEEN SIX MONTHS SINCE TOYOTA SENT ME A LETTER INFORMING ME OF A RECALL OF MY CAR DUE TO THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. IN THE LETTER, IT STATED THAT IN A HOT, HUMID CLIMATE SUCH AS OURS, THE TAKATA AIRBAG WOULD BE EXPECTED TO BEGIN DETERIORATING ABOUT SIX YEARS AFTER MANUFACTURE AND BE TOTALLY DETERIORATED BY NINE YEARS. I DIDN'T GET THE LETTER UNTIL NINE YEARS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. IT'S LIKE TOYOTA SAYING, "GUESS WHAT, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IN YOUR CAR IS LIKELY TOTALLY DETERIORATED NOW, SO WE RECOMMEND YOUR NOT CARRYING ANY PASSENGERS UNTIL WE GET AROUND TO REPLACING YOUR AIR BAG." I'VE BEEN DRIVING MY WIFE AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AROUND QUITE OFTEN SINCE WE'VE BOUGHT THE YARIS, AND NOW I'M JUST FINDING OUT IT WAS DANGEROUS FOR THEM TO BE RIDING AS A PASSENGER FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS, AND ESPECIALLY NOW. FAILED EMISSION TEST IN WASHINGTON STATE. REASON: P0012 "A" CAMSHAFT POSITION -TIMING OVER-RETARDED (BANK 1) I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2008 AND HAVE FOLLOWED THE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS EXACTLY AS RECOMMENDED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP.

I WAS DRIVING TO MY MOTHERS OFF OF 700 E IN SALT LAKE CITY, DURING TRAFFIC. ALL 3 LANES STOPPED TO LET ME PASS AND AS I WAS TURNING LEFT ANOTHER CAR WAS DRIVING IN THE BIKE LANE AT 45MPH AND WITH OUT TOUCHING THEIR BRAKES SLAMMED INTO MY CAR THROWING ME A FEW FEET. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR I NOTICED MY AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. I REMEMBER THERE BEING A RECALL ON THEM AND LARRY H MILLER DID NO HAVE THE PARTS THEY NEEDED SO THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IF THAT OTHER DRIVE WAS GOING 4-5 MPH FASTER MY SON AND I COULD BE DEAD DO TO NO AIRBAGS. IT JUST WORRIED ME FOR THEM NOT DEPLOYING WHEN THE OTHER DRIVERS THEIR AIRBAGS DEPLOYED JUST FINE.

CLUNKING NOISE HEARD DURING VEHICLE OPERATION OVER ROADWAY BUMPS OR APPLICATION OF BRAKES. INSPECTED TO FIND FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BOLT CORRODED AND CRACKED. THIS BOLT IS LOCATED AT THE REAR OF THIS CONTROL ARM AND PASSES THROUGH THE SUBFRAME. BOLT HEAD AND PORTION OF SHANK WAS MISSING DUE TO CORROSION AND FATIGUE FAILURE. LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS LOOSE, POSING AN UNSAFE OPERATION CONDITION. TOYOTA HAS AN EXISTING TSB ON THIS ISSUE. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND PAID REPAIR COSTS OUT OF POCKET. SUBFRAME REMOVED, PORTION OF BOLT EXTRACTED AND REPLACED. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RE-EVALUATED FOR A RECALL POSSIBILITY. *TR
