Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2011 COROLLA MATRIX is air bags with 4 filings, followed by engine (1) and vehicle speed control (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 2 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 1 investigation file overlapping the 2011 COROLLA MATRIX. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

TRANSMISSION: MY 2011 TOYOTA MATRIX JERKS AND ACCELERATES SUDDENLY WITH A REVVING NOISE AND MAKING CHOKING SOUNDS LIKE GEARS SHIFTING IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR. THIS HAPPENS EACH TIME I SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A TURN (LEFT OR RIGHT) OR MERGE INTO THE FREEWAY, WHEN I SLOW DOWN AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND TRIES TO TAKE OFF AS THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN, AND WHEN I SLOW DOWN AND TRY CHANGING LANE TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD TO PRESS HARD ON THE BREAKS TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I STARTED DRIVING THE CAR AFTER TAKING OVER FROM MY DAUGHTER ONE AND A HALF YEARS AGO. THANKS YOU.

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. MY CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING AT A TURN, SEVERAL TIMES IN THE COLD AND CAUSING MY CAR TO SLIP. LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT BUT WHEN I SLOWED AND TURNED, MY CAR WOULD TURN OFF AND RIGHT BACK ON. I COULD NOT GET A DIAGNOSIS BECAUSE IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AT THE DEALER. BUT THEN I TOOK A TEST AND FOUND OUT I HAVE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. NOT SURE IF RELATED.

TAKATA INFLATORS. I HAVE NOT BEEN CALL FOR A SOLUTION. THERE REMEDY IS DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I WOULD LIKE TO SOLVE THIS MATTERS SINCE I BOUGHT A CAR FOR 5 PEOPLE, NOT 4. AND TOYOTA DON'T ANT TO FIX IT BECAUSE THEY SAY THEY DON'T HAVE THE REMEDY.
