THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JACK TAYLOR'S ALEXANDRIA TOYOTA (703-684-0700, LOCATED AT 3750 JEFFERSON DAVIS HWY, ALEXANDRIA, VA 22305) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 274,000.

20170126EXTERIOR LIGHTING

THE 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY SOLARA HAD A FILM THAT HAD BUILT UP ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND FRONT PASSENGER SIDE LENSES WHICH WAS DIFFICULT TO CLEAN. THE LENSES HAD BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE FILM CONTINUED TO IMPACT THE VISIBILITY OF THE LOW BEAMS AND HIGH BEAMS. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM SHORTED TWICE AND WAS REPLACED. THE O2 SENSOR FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO REPLACE THE LENSES WITH A MORE TRANSLUCENT LENSE FOR THE HEAD LAMPS TO PREVENT A FAILURE OF POOR VISIBILITY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. DYD

AS SOON AS I REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPENED I JIGGLED THE SHIFTER (IT WAS IN D2) AND THE GEAR SEEMED TO RE-ENGAGE AND I CONTINUED DRIVING WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED A HALF DOZEN TIMES.

EVERY TIME THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT IS MOVED FORWARD TO ALLOW PASSENGERS IN OR OUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN THE VEHICLE STARTS BLINKING. THE LIGHT WILL BLINK FOR AROUND 15 DAYS BEFORE IT SHUTS OFF IF THE PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT MOVED FORWARD FOR PASSENGERS DURING THAT TIME. THE NEXT TIME THE PASSENGER SEAT IS MOVED FORWARD FOR PASSENGERS, THE CYCLE STARTS OVER AGAIN.
