WE EXPERIENCED THE "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" MESSAGE ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE FIRST INCIDENT, ON APRIL 3, 2019, INVOLVED DRIVING EIGHT MILES AND THEN LEAVING THE CAR (OFF AND PARKED) FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. ON RETURNING AND ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR, THE POWER CAME ON BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT AND THE "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" MESSAGE DISPLAYED. IT WAS EVENING, SO WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO OUR NORMAL REPAIR SHOP AND LEFT A DESCRIPTION OF THE ISSUE. THE NEXT DAY THE REPAIR SHOP CALLED TO SAY THAT THE CAR HAD STARTED UP RIGHT AWAY, SO THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THEY SUGGESTED WE CONTACT TOYOTA IF THE ISSUE RECURRED. WE RETRIEVED THE CAR, AND DIDN'T OBSERVE ANY FURTHER ISSUES, SO WE CONTINUED DRIVING IT 20-25 MILES DURING THE WORK WEEK. ON APRIL 28, 2019, TWENTY-FIVE DAYS AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 35 MILES PER HOUR ALONG A STRAIGHT SECTION OF A FOUR-LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE CUT OFF AND THE THE "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" MESSAGE CAME ON. OVER THE COURSE OF MY OWNERSHIP OF THIS CAR, TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID 2012, ALL 4 LOCK ACTUATORS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED AT LEAST ONCE. RECENTLY, THE DRIVER'S FRONT SIDE LOCK ACTUATOR STOPPED WORKING FOR THE SECOND TIME AND THE ONLY WAY TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THIS DOOR, IS TO DO SO MANUALLY. I PAID FOR THE REPAIR THE FIRST TIME IN JANUARY OF 2016, $642, PAID TO RUN THE DIAGNOSTICS FOR THE OTHER THREE DOORS THAT WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME, DECEMBER 2016, AND WAS QUOTED $656 TODAY, MAY 2019, TO REPAIR THE SAME DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR AGAIN. TOYOTA GOODWILL COVERED THE OTHER THREE DOORS BEYOND THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSTICS. I FEEL THAT THEY ONLY COVERED THE COST IN DECEMBER OF 2016 TO PREVENT ME FROM ISSUING A COMPLAINT. THIS IS ONLY AN ISSUE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. SAFETY ISSUES COULD ARISE WHEN YOU NEED TO QUICKLY ENTER THE CAR IN AN UNSAFE NEIGHBORHOOD.

MY 2012 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID'S DRIVER SEAT BELT LATCH MALFUNCTIONED. IT BUCKLED NORMALLY, HOWEVER, WHEN I WENT TO UNBUCKLE THE SEAT BELT, THE SPRING INSIDE THE MECHANISM WRAPPED AROUND THE NOTCH IN THE METAL SEAT BELT LATCH. THE SPRING WAS COMPLETELY REMOVED WITH THE SEAT BELT. THE SEAT BELT NO LONGER FUNCTIONS PROPERLY AND WILL ONLY LATCH IF THE SEAT BELT FASTENER BUTTON IS DEPRESSED AND THEN RELEASED WHILE THE SEAT BELT IS INSERTED.

WATER INFILTRATION CAN START WITH A VERY SLOW AMOUNT SO THE ISSUE IS NOT DISCOVERED IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE UNDERNEATH THE CARPET IS A MATERIAL THAT ABSORBS THIS WATER. MOLD CAN BE DEVELOPED, AS WELL AS ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS DURING DRIVING. MY SPOUSE ACCUSED BREATHING ISSUES AND PSORIASIS AND WE DISCOVERED THAT OUR VEHICLE IS GETTING RAIN WATER INSIDE.COULD BE FOR MONTHS OR EVEN YEARS, AS WELL AS SINCE WE PURCHASED IT - THERE IS NOT WAY TO ASSUME OR TO NOTICE HOW MUCH WATER YOU HAVE IN WHICH TIME BECAUSE YOU DISCOVER IT WHEN IS TOO LATE. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGE, CLAIMING THAT ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGES CAUSED BY OUTSIDE ELEMENTS. IT WAS A COLD DAY .WE DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TILL MY HUSBAND OPEN UP THE SUNROOF COVER AND ALL THE GLASS STARTED TOO FALL DOWN ON US. WE WHERE NOT AWARE THAT THIS HAPPENED TOO OTHERS. WE WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CAR WITH A SUNROOF.WE HAD TOO PUT TAPE ON IT TOO TRY KEEP FROM FLYING OFF IN ANOTHER PERSON CAR.WE WANT TOO INFORM YOU SO MAYBE YOU CAN GET CAR DEALERSHIP OR THE SUNROOF FACTORY TOO REPLACE OR WARN PEOPLE OF THIS DEFECT.IN THERE PRODUCT.

TAKATA AIRBAGS: KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS. AFTER TURNING RIGHT ONTO A STREET & ACCELERATING TO ABOUT 20 MPH OVER ABOUT 150 YARDS, I HIT A CAR THAT WAS STOPPED IN THE STREET. I HAD MY SEATBELT ON. THE AIRBAG KNOCKED ME UNCONSCIOUS FOR AT LEAST 10 SECONDS. (I WEIGH 122 LBS & I'M 5 FT 3.5 IN.) I DIDN'T REALIZE I'D BEEN KNOCKED OUT: I LOOKED DOWN TO SEE A PARTIALLY INFLATED AIRBAG. I DIDN'T REALIZE I' BEEN UNCONSCIOUS OR THAT MY EYEGLASSES HAD BEEN KNOCKED OFF. BASED ON WHAT I SAW, I THOUGHT THE AIRBAG HADN'T FULLY INFLATED. BUT MY 13-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, WHO WAS IN THE BACK SEAT, SAID SHE HAD THOUGHT I WAS DEAD BECAUSE SHE REPEATEDLY CALLED TO ME AFTER THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND I DIDN'T ANSWER. I NEVER HEARD HER OR EVEN KNEW MY CHEST/FACE WAS AGAINST THE AIRBAG. MY DAUGHTER SAID MY FACE AND CHEST WERE SLUMPED AGAINST THE AIRBAG. I WAS SHOCKED: ALL I KNEW WAS THAT I JUST SAW THE CAR I WAS GOING TO HIT, BRAKED, AND THEN SAW A PARTIALLY INFLATED AIRBAG. BUT MY CHEST HURT. THE NEXT DAY MY CHEST HURT SO

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SENT AN INSPECTOR TO INVESTIGATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT YET BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,107.

THIS IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THE CAMRY HYBRIDS, AS TOYOTA ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 2006-2011 CAMRY HYBRIDS FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM.
