SHORTLY AFTER INSTALLING A SPECTRA PREMIUM REPLACEMENT FUEL TANK ON MY 1991 CAMRY, THE VENT TUBE LEAKED FUEL AND VAPORS DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE JOINT WHERE THE VAPOR TUBE IS SOLDERED TO THE TANK. A HAIRLINE CRACK AT THIS JOINT WAS EITHER PRESENT AT MANUFACTURE, OR DEVELOPED SOON AFTER INSTALL, THROUGH WHICH SIGNIFICANT VAPOROUS AND LIQUID GASOLINE ESCAPED. THIS IS A FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD AS WELL AS A HEALTH AND AIR POLLUTION HAZARD. I CALLED SPECTRA PREMIUM TO ALERT THEM TO THIS AND THEY REFU

TL-THE DRIVER OWNED A 1991 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 90 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TREE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS KILLED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. VWB UPDATED 06/24/10 *BF ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, THE CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. WE OWNED A 91 TOYOTA CAMERY, IT CAUGHT FIRE FOR THE SECOND TIME ONLY THIS TIME IT BURNED TO A CRISP. I REMEMBER THERE BEING A RECALL ON THE RADIO BEFORE, BUT THATS ALL. OUR CAR CAUGHT FIRE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND WE REPLACED THE ENGINE. THERE WAS NO REASON FOUND WHY CAR CAUGHT FIRE. THIS TIME SATURDAY 9-10-00 IT CAUGHT FIRE ON THE PARKWAY. WHY? RADIO CAUGHT ON FIRE. RADIO HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL AND REPLACED PRIOR TO THE FIRE. OWNER REPLACED RADIO AT OWN COST, SEEKS REIMBURSEMENT. *AK *ML
UPON OPENING THE FUEL TANK THE CONSUMER FELT EXTREME HEAT AND LOOKED DOWN TO SEE THAT HER HAND AND ARM WERE COVERED IN FLAMES TO THE ELBOW, THE CONSUMER SAYS SHE DIDNT NOTICE A SPARK PRIOR TO OPENING THE TANK. *AK *NLM
WHILE DRIVING AT 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY STEERING FAILED. THE DRIVER COULD NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. A CRASH WAS THE RESULT. *AK
