ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, STRESS AROUND THE RIGHT FRONT FUEL TANK MOUNTING POINT CAN CAUSE HAIRLINE FATIGUE CRACKS TO FORM. THIS CAN RESULT IN A FUEL LEAK.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 SUZUKI VL1500 MOTORCYCLE. ON JANUARY 12, 2009, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE WARMING UP. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE NEAR THE FUEL TANK WAS THE PART THAT CAUGHT FIRE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V025000 PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. SHE ATTEMPTED TO GET ASSISTANCE FROM THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO THE REPAIRS, BUT THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY CORRESPONDENCE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 1,900.
