THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY HAD BEEN OVERCHARGED AND LEAKED SULPHURIC ACID. AS A RESULT, THE BATTERY AND RECTIFIER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V018000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THERE WOULD BE A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE IGNITION WHEN STARTING UP THE MOTORCYCLE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
I HAVE A 2002 HAYABUSA MOTORCYCLE. ABOUT A MONTH AGO WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE BIKE THE STARTER GEAR WOULD SLIP AND I WOULD HEAR AN ABNORMALLY LOUD CLANKING SOUND. FINALLY, I ATTEMPTED TO START THE BIKE AND THE STARTER WOULD NOT ENGAGE, (JUST SPINNING UP). I HAD TO HAVE THE BIKE TOWED ($75) TO THE DEALER WHO IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED SUZUKI USA THEY REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT THE ISSUE IS DISCUSSED IN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 126 ISSUED BY SUZUKI. THEY WILL UPGRADE THE STARTER GEAR PARTS ONLY WHEN FAILURE OCCURS. I FEEL THEY SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. *AK
