Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2025 2500 is electrical system with 18 filings, followed by unknown or other (9) and engine (5). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 4 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 2 investigation files overlapping the 2025 2500. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

My Trailer Control Module failed when I hooked my travel trailer up to my truck to tow for a weekend trip. This was the first time I hooked my 2018 travel trailer to my truck. The lights started blinking erratically and then the module quit responding completely and I was not able to tow without brakes and lights. There is a new recall issued for this part but my VIN isn’t showing up as eligible. I was forced to pay out of pocket to have my TCM replaced because they tried to blame my trailer. The trailer worked fine on my 2016 Ram 2500. The trailer worked fine on my father’s 2019 Ram 2500 and it works fine now with the new trailer control module installed. Now there is a recall issued but my truck maybe doesn’t fall within the listed dates? However, I have experienced the failure that is being recalled.

Subject: Safety Concern – Vehicle Shuts Down While Driving / Request for Replacement Despite multiple warranty repair attempts, my 2025 Ram 2500 continues to experience unresolved electrical failures. In addition to the previously documented issues, the vehicle shuts down while driving, forcing me to immediately pull over, place the vehicle in park, and restart the engine in order to continue driving. This condition has occurred unexpectedly and without warning. Losing power while the vehicle is in motion presents a serious safety risk, especially during highway or interstate driving. Given that I rely on this truck for work and frequently travel long distances between New Jersey and Texas, this behavior makes the vehicle unsafe and unreliable for its intended use. The truck has already undergone repeated diagnostics, module replacements, software updates, wiring repairs, and battery replacement at authorized Ram dealerships. Despite these efforts, the issue persists. At this poin

I have had my DEF system in my 2025 Ram 2500 Freeze twice now, I live in an area that drops below 12 degrees in the winter. I took it to the dealership the first time and they said the whole thing was frozen solid. I had to pay $365 since it is not covered under warranty for them to completely thaw it out and put new DEF in the tank. 7 days later it froze up again. The Service DEF System message seems to come on every time I have already been driving for awhile. I'm not trying to pay $365 every single time it freezes up.

While driving in 4x4 on a snow covered road, the truck simultaneously got a check engine light as well as several other error messages to include service required to the emergency braking and the trailer brake controller. At the same time, the full exhaust brake engaged without any driver input and caused a sudden slowing of the truck's tires on a slippery surface. The owners manual specifically warns "Do not use the exhaust brake feature when driving in icy or slippery conditions as the increased engine braking can cause the rear wheels to slide and the vehicle to swing around with the possible loss of vehicle control, which may cause a collision possibly resulting in personal injury or death." Fortunately I had a lot of weight in the truck when this happened and I was able to control it, but a malfunction that turns on the full exhaust brake, especially while 4x4 is engaged, is dangerous enough that there is a warning in the manual. This happened twice. I had a solid check engine l
