New Car Assessment Program

The 2022RAM2500 carries 242 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 12 crashes, 7 fires, 6 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2022 2500 is electrical system with 56 filings, followed by power train (47) and engine (26). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 12 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 2 investigation files overlapping the 2022 2500. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

20251206FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

My 2022 Ram 2500 6.4L HEMI has a long crank/hard-start issue every morning. It takes 5–6 attempts to start when the vehicle sits overnight. After starting once, it runs normally the rest of the day. I also had issues where the truck struggled to start after refueling. I replaced the gas cap and EVAP purge valve, which improved the refueling issue, but the long-crank cold start continues. I suspect a fuel pump internal check-valve failure causing fuel pressure to bleed down overnight. This is common on these trucks and is a safety concern because the vehicle may fail to start in emergency situations or stall unexpectedly. No check-engine light is present. The issue is repeatable daily.” Faulty fuel pumps in these specific RAM models can suddenly fail while driving. This failure can lead to a complete loss of engine power without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

I am reporting a recurring safety defect involving hydraulic lifter failure in Ram trucks equipped with the Cummins diesel engine (model years 2019–2024). This issue is widely acknowledged by Stellantis and multiple dealers. It typically begins with a knocking sound and has been documented in many cases to progress to complete engine failure. My vehicle has fewer than 20,000 miles. The lifters were already replaced once, which required the cab to be removed. Within less than 400 miles of that repair, the knocking sound has returned. I brought the truck to a second dealer, who confirmed the problem and informed me that Stellantis has an active STAR case acknowledging the defect. They stated there is currently no known permanent fix. This defect presents a serious safety concern. Sudden engine failure while driving, especially under load or at highway speeds, could lead to loss of power, loss of steering/braking assist, and potential accidents. In my situation, I frequently travel wi

20251118CrashSEATS

While slowing for traffic, I was struck in the rear by a large pickup. On impact, the driver seat broke, causing the whole seat to tilt back to more than 45 degrees backwards tilt. This caused me to impact the seat at a greater impact than I would have had if the seat remained in place. The seat being in that position after the impact, made it so I could not reach the pedals (brakes) to stop the vehicle from rolling forward until I used the steering wheel to pull myself forward. Upon inspection after the collision, it was observed that part of the adjustment assembly detached from a bolt causing the seat to come loose from its proper position.

My screen on my truck went out and had to be reset manually, next my heated steering wheel stopped working. The problem is the cool spring in my steering wheel. Upon research there is a common problem with this said coil spring. This can cause multiple problems including loss of air bag function and front end collision indicator which comes on time to time saying it’s disabled due to this same said coil. Why this is not a recall and the owner’s responsibility is unknown. There is also no indicator telling you if the airbag may or may not deploy when need from this issue.

After the y43 recall that Dodge did on 2022 Cummins Ram vehicles I have had four issues. The first one being the recall itself having sensors stuck while replacing, the second being the particulate filter sensor, third being DPF pressure sensor, and fourth being the maf sensor. During my most recent visit of getting the math sensor replaced I was not given any reason to why this was being replaced when they said everything seem to be within parameters. The dealership had stayed in one talking to the TA or tech advisor that they wanted to try this to see if it fixed the issue. I am now back again at the dealership just days later after the dealership having my truck for 2 weeks for the same issue. This all stems from the y43 recall and I've only had issues since. I've asked for specific answers to specific questions in Dodge seems to pass technical engineering questions back to the dealership without providing educated answers instead of educated guesses. During the y43 recall it stated

While towing a (new) travel trailer, the trailer brakes stop working intermittently. The local RAM dealer could not find any problems. A DTC code C10C7-19 was discovered with no way to repair according to the Ram dealer. I contacted the RV dealer about this problem. They said they have never seen this problem. Test were made on the electrical brake system, All wiring and brakes checked OK. I do not feel safe towing not knowing if my brakes will work or not.
