The 2010PONTIACG6 carries 425 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 17 crashes, 3 fires, 7 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2010 G6 is steering with 170 filings, followed by electrical system (59) and electronic stability control (esc) (54). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 3 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 17 investigation files overlapping the 2010 G6. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

My vehicle steering wheel began shaking every time I am stopped at stop light. It also jerks when I am driving. When I start the car, it sometimes the steering wheel gets very hard nad a power steering notice comes up in the notification screen. A car with scwiggly lines also is shown. This happens intermittently. One time the power steering turned off while I was driving and it was very hard to drive and dangerous.

The power steering angle sensor malfunctioned/stopped working properly at approx. 197,000 miles. The part was taken out and replaced by a local GM dealership. With the sensor malfunctioning, we experienced intermittent loss of power steering as well as shaking in the steering column which made it suddenly VERY difficult to steer. We lost power steering mid-drive many times and could have been killed because of this issue. The vehicle would be functioning completely normally and all of a sudden lose power steering mid-turn or while backing up and become nearly impossible to control. The problem was corrected out of pocket from us by a GM dealership service center. Unknown if it has been inspected. The dash light "ESC" would come on AS the power steering disengaged, but not until then. The dash display would also show "power steering" after we lost the power steering, but not before as a warning or anything.

The electric steering assist went out while driving, making it very hard to steer. I am in the process of getting this replaced. I will try to have the mechanic give me the old part so it is available. It was very hard to steer and stay in my lane. Could have easily gotten into an accident. No dealer, or independent service center has verified it yet. Trying to get it scheduled now. Nothing inspected yet. No warnings. The "Power Steering" light came on when it failed.

I will start my car with my power steering not working, turn it off and turn it back on and it will be working fine. I was driving down the road and it went out and I could not stop and restart the car because I was in mid traffic and not near a red light. The steering wheel is hard to control and takes all my effort to turn the steering wheel to get where I needed to go. My car has not been worked on about this recall order and I believe this is the problem that is occurring.

SUDDEN LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ASSIST. THERE IS NO WARNING AND HAPPENS FREQUENTLY EVEN AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. THE ERRORS ON THE DASH ARE +POWER STEERING+ +SERVICE ESC+ AND +ESC OFF+ AFTER POWER STEERING IS LOST. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT WAS ADDRESSED WITH THE 2009 MODEL BUT YOU HAVE FAILED TO ADDRESS IT IN THE 2010 MODEL.
