The 2014NISSANSENTRA carries 522 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 33 crashes, 11 fires, 25 injuries, and 0 fatalities. For crash performance, NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program gave this cohort an overall 4/5 rating, with 4/5 front crash, 5/5 side crash, and 4/5 rollover scores derived from standardized barrier and dynamic tests.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2014 SENTRA is power train with 182 filings, followed by engine (62) and unknown or other (57). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 5 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 2 investigation files overlapping the 2014 SENTRA, and 1 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

Unknown.I have problems sometimes after I stop to get out with my doors not unlocking like they should.Happens off and on
While driving, I noticed smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. Within moments, flames appeared in the engine area and spread quickly, causing severe damage to the front portion of the car including the engine, electrical system, and body. No warning lamps, error messages, or unusual behavior were observed prior to the incident. The fire started suddenly without any indication of mechanical or electrical issues. My safety and the safety of others nearby were put at risk as the fire escalated rapidly. The problem has not been reproduced or inspected by the manufacturer or dealer yet, but the vehicle was completely disabled and is no longer operable due to the fire damage. Cause of the fire is UNKNOWN at this time.

CVT problem stopped on highway with kids in car put our life at risk called you all about the extended warranty or help fixing transmission. I was told itâs nothing you all can do because the warranty was expired but thereâs a class action lawsuit saying thousands of people are having the same specific problem
The CVT transmission on this Nissan sentra vehicle failed at 100,000 miles. Had it failed before 84,000 miles it would have been covered under a warranty. The VIN shows this is a Nissan vehicle that had a known defective CVT transmission. Is there any way I can get repairs paid for by Nissan even though this transmission lasted longer than most of these defective CVT transmissions due to good maintainance?

On 6/22/25, I was in a side-impact collision while turning into a gas station. A driver waved me through, but another car came rushing through the outer lane and hit the front passenger side of my 2014 Nissan Sentra. The impact caused serious damage, but none of the airbags deployed. There were no warning lights before or after. My hip hit the emergency brake during the collision. I felt okay at first, but Iâm starting to notice some discomfort now. I also have scoliosis, which makes even small impacts something I have to watch closely. My VIN shows no recalls, but Iâve found this model has had known airbag issues. Iâm reporting this as a serious safety failure. If this had happened at higher speeds, it couldâve been fatal.
The tail light on the drivers rear has condensation. Therefore, my brake lights flicker. When putting the parking lights/headlights on, the power to the gas pedal is cut. RPMs go down and the car simply does not have power to accelerate.
While Iâm driving it starts to stall. Especially after I press on the breaks and try to press on the gas again it being ins to like jerk and not want to go. I thought it was my suspension or that it needed a wheel alignment but after paying for those to get renewed itâs still having that problem and the mechanic said it was most likely the transmission.

Transmission failure in under 3 years. I replaced my transmission and rear assembly in 2022-23. It started with pressing the gas pedal and the car wouldnât accelerate while in heavy traffic. I spent over $3,000 on a brand new engine. Come 2024 the exact same problem with the repair price being quoted at around $7,000. There was no hard driving on the car so I donât understand how itâs going so soon. Iâve never had so much trouble with a car.
