Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2024 OUTLANDER is unknown or other with 3 filings, followed by power train (3) and electrical system (3). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 1 active recall campaign, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 14 investigation files overlapping the 2024 OUTLANDER. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

BACK OVER PREVENTION:SOFTWARE

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Outlander and 2023-2025 Outlander PHEV vehicles. Due to a software error in the in-vehicle infotainment system (A-IVI), the rearview camera image may freeze, or not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail t

20260215BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Sometimes when I am backing up, the rear backup camera will go dark, switch to something random (such as music screen) or freeze (I.e. it shows a clear path behind me while backing up but the screen is just frozen). This is a significant safety issue because if someone is relying on a backup camera to maneuver, and a kid walks behind the car, the driver would not notice the kid if the screen froze. If the backup camera fails, a driver is blind and must either continue blind (as mirrors may not be adjusted for backing up) or must switch gears to go forward (which could also cause an accident since there is a delay in doing this and a car may be exposed on the street).

20260215EXTERIOR LIGHTING

If headlights are in auto position or were on prior to car starting (I.e. they were left in on position last time car was on), the headlights sometimes do not turn on even though the headlight icon is illuminated. Basically, headlights sometimes say they are on even though they are not.

20260215POWER TRAIN

While on even a slight hill, sometimes the car rolls back if I am not moving forward. For example, if ai am stopped at a red light, the car will roll backwards (instead of not moving or going forward). It’s an automatic transmission so this should not occur. I.e. the transmission is already starting to go out b4 35k miles. There are also instances of one wheel “dragging” or delayed propulsion compared to the other wheel. It is very difficult to get in touch with a dealership for warranty info. I am in Berkeley and no one picks up the phone from the Fremont dealership or calls back when I leave a message.

20260215ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The music will all of a sudden start blasting, volume will randomly start increasing, phone calls (connected to car) will randomly end, voice activation will randomly activate on car. This can surprise driver and could cause an issue. For example, random metal music randomly turning on in the car can be unexpected. When a call ends randomly (caused by car system randomly ending) it could cause driver to divert focus from driving. I think these issues are related to the capacitive sensors on the steering wheel randomly activating without touch.

20251202CrashSTEERING

I was driving my vehicle, the roads were snowy so was traveling slowly. I attempted to slow down a little more, when I pushed on the brake there was absolutely no response, usually you can feel and even hear the brakes (abs) functioning, there was nothing. I also tried to steer, again, no response, the vehicle continued straight, we went into a ditch and rolled on our side. I tried to put down a window but all dash lights, etc were off and car was not running. I pushed the "start button" dash lights came on, could roll down windows, etc... and the car even starts and runs now. It seems as though there was no "control" of any kind, we were going slow and I even had time to tell my passenger, "be prepared, hold on"...

UNKNOWN. I am buying this vehicle and it does the following: after shutting it off while in gear, it shuts off before its all the way into park. The next several starts include these problems: the drivers and media screens are out of synchronization and come up slow and even blank. They go out and I have had this vehicle even have everything go out, all lights ,ac, etc yet it stayed running. When I told the dealer, he said there was no problem so I took it to another one that wanted to replace it with another one and a different loan holder. Why, my loan is good and current. I am a very frustrated buyer and I demanded it back when I realized that the pre-sales inspection form was not completed. This started at a stoplight.

I purchased my 2024 Outlander in August and drive 150 miles daily, Monday to Friday. Since November, with only 2,500 miles on it, I've experienced recurring issues: 1. Adaptive cruise control turns off frequently 2.Forward collision light comes on unnecessarily often several times daily (when starting, driving and when cruise is on) 3.Vehicle brakes suddenly on the interstate 4.Random forward crash light warnings I've taken it to the shop five times, with the following repairs: 1.Radar adjustment (done several times) 2. Radar sensor recalibration (several times) 3. Replacement of forward distance warning sensors 4. Front bumper bracket replacement due to bend 5. Mitsubishi has been involved on 4 occasions 6. I have called and put in a complete with Mitsubishi three times and they always say they will contact me with a resolution within a few days and I have never heard back with any resolution. 7. 20250122POWER TRAIN

In the morning where I live for the last few days it has been below 0. The Outlander PHEV even when plugged in over night will start the gas engine and drive for about one minute until the gas engine shuts off and comes up with a message saying power reduced with a turtle symbol. When it does this you have no heat (HVAC) the heated seats and heated steering wheel does not work as well as the front and rear defrost. The car speed seems to be limited to about 40MPH. This issue is not news as many PHEV owners are dealing with the same issue, From my understanding Mitsubishi didn't install a battery warmer on the new generation Outlander PHEV however the prior generation Outlander PHEV did have a battery warmer and there were no issues with that model in cold climates. Your vehicle should always be a reliable source of heat when needed it doesn't seem to be very reliable in cold climates and it really is a hazard when it decides to reduce power with no warning.
