Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MONTHS AGO THE CLEAR PAINT COAT BEGAN TO TURN WHITE ON MY BLACK 1999 MITSUBISHI GALANT. IT BEGAN ON THE ROOF OF MY CAR AS A SMALL SPOT...BUT THEN IT SPREAD. I TOOK MY CAR TO DARCARS MITSUBISHI (WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR BRAND NEW BACK IN 1999) TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PAINT. THE GUY "TOLD" ME THAT I HAD MY CAR PAINTED BEFORE. I CLARIFIED THAT I NEVER HAD MY CAR PAINTED BEFORE & ASKED TO SPEAK TO HIS MANAGER. I EVEN PRINTED OUT INTERNET COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE CLEAR COATS COMING OFF THEIR MITSUBISHI'S. HIS MANAGER ALSO "TOLD" ME THAT I HAD MY CAR PAINTED. I CLARIFIED THAT I DID NOT APPRECIATE THEM TRYING TO IMPLY THAT I WAS LYING. I MADE IT VERY CLEAR THAT I NEVER HAD MY CAR PAINTED BEFORE. DURING THIS TIME OF FRUSTRATION A MITSUBISHI SALES REP ACTUALLY HAD THE NERVE TO TRY TO PERSUADE ME INTO LOOKING AT NEWER GALANT'S!!! I CALLED MITSUBISHI HEADQUARTERS AND THEY TOLD ME I NO LONGER HAD A WARRANTY ON THE PAINT. I COME FROM A LARGE FAMILY...AND WE'VE A
THE SUV-NATIVA DOES NOT DRIVE IN A STRAIGHT LINE, IT TENDS TO DEVIATE TO THE RIGHT. THIS IS NOTICED PARTICULARLY WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR CORRECTION IN TWO OCCATIONS (12-22-1999, 11,998 M.; 3-23-2000, 16,175 M.) AND CONTINUES TO RECURR FOR A THIRD TIME NOW (5-6-2000, 18,583 M.). I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY OTHER OWNERS THAT THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME RECURRENT PROBLEM. I'M AFFRAID THIS DEFECT MIGHT TURN IN MAJOR DIFICULTY IN CONTROLLING THE CAR IN STRENOUS SITUATIONS. ALSO AFTER THE 36,000 MILES WARRANTY I WILL CONTINUE WITH THE PROBLEM (MOST PROBABLY WORSENED) AND THEN AT MY COST. *AK
