ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL CABLE LOCK NUT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED TO THE PROPER TORQUE SPECIFICATION. THE LOCK NUT MAY LOOSEN AND COME OFF, WHICH WILL REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PARKING BRAKE.

WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP OUT OF GEAR FROM DRIVE TO NETURAL TO DRIVE WHILE BOTH LIGHTS ARE SHOWING THE CAR IS IN THAT GEAR . WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE CAR BRAKES ENGAGED AND THE WENT BACK INTO DRIVE ,AND I HAD TO DRIVE HIW AT A VERY LOW SPEED TO MAKE IT HOME.

SINCE CAR DID NOT START 3 TIMES IN A ROW AFTER PUMPING GAS, AND I NEEDED A JUMP EVERY TIME, I HAD MECHANIC DO A DIAGNOSTIC. HE SAID THE ISSUE WAS TIED TO A RECALL BULLETIN. 10V065000 - FILLER PIPE AND CAP. CALLED MITSUBISHI TO FIX IT BUT THEY SAID MY CAR DOES NOT QUALIFY BECAUSE I AM STATE OF CALIFORNIA. I DO A LOT OF MY DRIVING IN SNOW SO I FEEL MITSUBISHI SHOULD FIX THIS FOR ME. THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD SO I NEED TO FIX IT ASAP (PLUS I DON'T WANT TO GET STUCK AT A GAS STATION AGAIN NEEDING A JUMP). I'D LIKE MITSUBISHI TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS EXPENSE BECAUSE NOW I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET.

AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DRIVE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER (MITSUBISHI/HYUNDAI IN BRANDON, FL), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
