Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2001 CANTER GE is electrical system:horn with 2 filings, followed by engine and engine cooling:cooling system:radiator assembly (1) and visibility:glass, side/rear (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 14 investigation files overlapping the 2001 CANTER GE. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. MY CAR ONLY HAS 65000 MILES ON IT. SO FAR I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE A RADIATOR, HEADS, AND NOW MY HORN AND DRIVER SIDE WINDOW BROKE. MY UNDERSTANDING FROM THE MECHANIC WAS THAT MITSUBISHI ISSUED A BULLETIN IN MARCH 2002 STATING THAT THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE HORN/AIR BAG. IN ORDER FOR ME TO FIX THE HORN I WOULD HAVE TO BUY A NEW AIR BAG. I AM VERY SURPRISED THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. IT DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH ANY KIND OF DAMAGE THAT I HAVE DONE TO THE CAR, AND I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY HAD EVEN ISSUED A BULLETIN. ALSO, THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW TRACK BROKE. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND SINCE THE CAR IS ONLY A 2001, AND I ONLY HAS 65, 000 MILES ON IT WHY I AM HAVING ALL THESE PROBLEMS. *AK
