Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2007 S65 is equipment with 1 filings, followed by visibility/wiper (1) and exterior lighting (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 15 investigation files overlapping the 2007 S65. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. THE WIRING HARNESS INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY CRACKS CAUSING A SHORT, WHICH IN TURN CAUSES THE HEADLIGHTS TO STOP WORKING. THIS HAPPENED TO US DURING A LONG DISTANCE TRIP AT NIGHT. THESE HEADLIGHT ARE NOT THE TYPE OF HEADLIGHTS YOU CAN PICK UP AT YOUR LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE AND CAN ONLY BE REPLACED WITH OEM PARTS. A WIRE HARNESS IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AND AT OVER $1,900 PER LIGHT ASSEMBLY, MERCEDES BENZ SHOULD BE REPLACING THE HEADLIGHTS WITH THE DEFECTIVE WIRING. THE POSSIBILITY OF THESE LIGHTS GOING OUT AT NIGHT (IT HAPPENED TO US) AND CAUSING AN ACCIDENT IS REAL. I HAVE PHOTOS, BUT THE WEBSITE IS NOT ALLOWING ME TO LOAD. THE BROWSE BUTTON DOES NOT DO ANYTHING...
