The 2008MERCEDES-BENZR350 carries 48 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2008 R350 is suspension with 12 filings, followed by steering (10) and electrical system (5). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 2 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 15 investigation files overlapping the 2008 R350. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

The brake fluid lines are corroding much faster than in other models, and without actual corrosion under the car. It happened to my car, and I have been reading forums of MB owners of this same R model, as well as C, E, GLK, and ML models all reporting the same issues. The lines corroding earlier to due to the brake boost system failure and other fluids/air entering the system is the most consistent cause of brake line failure I was able to get off the internet, as well as MB not using lines with proper material. The only thing I know is that the lines are not supposed to fail this early and this bad. It happened while driving north on [XXX] in NY INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes-Benz R350. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V315000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. Hi I received a letter from Mercedes for a stop drive recall (NHTSA #22V315, MBUSA ID: 2022050014 & 2022050015), so I bought my Mercedes R350 to the shop for repair on July 15, 2022. Mercedes Benz of Pleasanton (925463-2525) claimed that brake booster parts were not available at that time and I couldn't drive the car, so they left the car at the shop waiting for the parts to become available. Later on when I called, the service rep claimed the parts had been ordered so kept my car in their lot (since July 15, 2022) Since then, I have been on the rental car (that I am still paying for) and I reached out to them multiple times and couldn't get a status update from them, nor schedule for my car return. I Hope NHTSA can help me to receive an update of my recalled vehicle, and their solution. I don't know how long do I need to use rental car. I would like to file an official complaint to Mercedes Benz USA. They don't seem to know how to handle their own recall. Thank you in advance.
Every time I braked, car not stop until very close to the car in front of me. Couples time I hit the car in front of me. Sometime I have to slam the brakes very hard, but the car still move forward.
I DROVE TO WORK WITH NO PROBLEMS. HOWEVER; RETURNING I STARTED CAR AND COULD HEAR A SLIGHT SOUND. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE CAR RISING SIGN WAS ILLUMINATED AND I WAITED FOR CAR TO RISE. THE CAR FAILED TO RISE AND WAS SITTING SO LOW TO TIRES THAT I COULD NOT DRIVE AND HAD TO BE TOWED HOME. AT HOME I TRIED AGAIN TO SEE IF CAR WOULD RISE AND AGAIN IT FAILED. IN ADDITION TO THE ABS BREAK SIGN BEING ILLUMINATED AS WELL. THE MESSAGE ON DASH STATED TO CONTACT DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. MY MILEAGE IS AT132,051.

I have tried, since 730 this morning to find out what can be done with regard to the recall of my car. I contacted my dealer - Faulkner Mercedes in Doylestown.... who explained that they couldn't do anything, as they have neither the tools nor the parts to address this issue, and won't have for quite some time, and that I needed to call the Mercedes recall hotline. Which, I did. While on hold for about 40 minutes to get through to someone, they took my information and told me that there was nothing that could be done, because the "Recall hadn't been launched yet" and that it would be a few weeks before I'd get a letter in the mail telling me what I needed to do. This is absurd. First off, most people will give up and not wait on hold and keep driving, and second, I need my car, as do the other 292,000 drivers - and these people can't wait weeks to get a letter. Most will have no alternative but to drive them while waiting for Mercedes to address this problem. Mercedes needs to provide
THE VERY HEAVY TRUNK COMES DOWN FAST BUT DOES NOT CLOSE. INSTEAD THE TRUNK REOPENS AUTOMATICALLY. THE PROBLEM IS ONE COULD GET HIT IN THE FACE AS THE TRUNK REVERSES AND STARTS TO REOPEN ON ITS OWN. ALSO THE TRUNK COULD OPEN ON ITS OWN WHILE DRIVING. THAT IS WHY THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAPHZARD
THE FUEL DOESN'T READ WHAT IS ACTUALLY IN MY CAR.

ELECTRICAL WIRING AROUND HEADLAMPS IS CRUMBLING AND EXPOSING LARGE LENGTHS OF BARE WIRES, WITH UP TO ABOUT 6" OF COPPER WIRING EXPOSED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I REPLACED A BURNED OUT HALOGEN HEADLAMP IN JUNE, THE OTHER ONE IN AUGUST, AND THE FIRST ONE WENT OUT AGAIN ABOUT A WEEK AGO (AND THIS RATE OF HEADLAMP REPLACEMENT IS MORE OR LESS TYPICAL; I KEEP TWO SPARES IN MY CAR AT ALL TIMES, AS BURNOUTS ARE SO FREQUENT). THE BARE WIRES MAY BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE EXTREMELY SHORT BULB LIFE AND COULD ALSO CAUSE ARCING AND POTENTIALLY AN ENGINE FIRE. ALTHOUGH AN ENGINE FIRE HAS NOT HAPPENED YET, THE ARCING IS EXTREMELY LIKELY. HOWEVER, THE AREA WHERE THIS OCCURS IS SO HAS EXTREMELY RESTRICTED ACCESS AND DIRECT VISION INTO AND AROUND THE HEADLAMP MOUNT IS NOT POSSIBLE. ONLY UPON INSERTING MY IPHONE INTO THE AVAILABLE SPACE WAS I ABLE TO SEE THE EXTENT OF THE WIRING INSULATION DETERIORATION.VIRTUALLY ALL OF THE SEGMENTED INSULATION ON THE BROWN WIRE FLAKED OFF ON MY FINGERS WHEN I INSTALLED T
