I SPILLED A CUP OF COFFEE OVER THE SHIFTER IN MY CAR. THE ELECTRIC IN THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. THIS INCLUDED BRAKES, STEERING, ENGINE, WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS. AS I WAS TRAVELING ON AN UPHILL EXIT RAMP. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I CALLED MERCEDES, THEY ASKED IF I SPILLED SOMETHING. I ASKED WHY AND THEY SAID THIS WAS THE FIFTH COMPLAINT THEY HAD AT THAT SERVICE STATION ABOUT THE POWER/ELECTRIC GOING OFF WHEN THERE WAS A SPILL IN THE AREA OF THE SHIFTER. I THINK THIS IS A DANGEROUS DESIGN SINCE THEY PUT THE COFFEE HOLDER DIRECTLY OVER THE SHIFTER. APPARENTLY, MERCEDES PUTS THE COMPUTER SYSTEM BELOW THE SHIFTER. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS CRASH IF I WAS TRAVELEING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND THE POWER SHUT DOWN. THANK YOU. I HAVE THE REPAIR SLIP IF YOU NEED TO KNOW THE PRECISE PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED.

CUP HOLDER DESIGN TENDS TO ROTATE FORWARD AND DUMP CUP UPON BRAKING. ON THIS OCCURRENCE, HARD BRAKING WAS NECESSARY DUE TO ANOTHER CAR CUTTING IN FRONT OF MINE. THE COFFEE CUP WAS DUMPED FORWARD, AND SPILLED INTO THE CENTER CONSOLE/GEAR SHIFT AREA. THIS COMPLETELY DISABLED AND DISCONNECTED THE TRANSMISSION DUE TO MOISTURE PENETRATION OF THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MECHANISM. THE DISABLEMENT OCCURRED IN A TRAFFIC LANE ON A 55 MPH SPEED LIMIT ROAD. I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE BEING ABLE TO GET THE CAR MOVED USING A "LIMP HOME" MODE WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF A MECHANIC FROM MB TELEAID. I FEEL THAT THE DESIGN ALLOWING THE TRANSMISSION TO BECOME TOTALLY DISABLED AND COMPLETELY DISCONNECT DUE TO LIQUID SPILLAGE FROM THE OEM CUPHOLDER IS A SERIOUS DEFECT WHICH NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY RETROFITTING A RUBBER SEAL OR OTHER SIMILAR SOLUTION. THE SERIOUSNESS AND SAFETY ISSUE IS UNDERSCORED BY THE FACT THAT I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED ON A HIGH SPEED ROAD BY SEVERAL CARS WHILE MY CAR WAS

CAR WILL NOT COMPLETLY STOP ON EACH INCIDENT WILL PULL TOWARD TO DRIVERS SIDE.
WHILE DRIVING SOMETHING WENT UNDER VEHICLE AND RUPTURED THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK. FUEL STARTED LEAKING FROM THE TANK. DEALER HAS VEHICLE CURRENTLY. *AK
