Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2023 AMG GLE53 is power train with 3 filings, followed by unknown or other (2) and forward collision avoidance: warnings (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 3 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 15 investigation files overlapping the 2023 AMG GLE53. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

* My driving side front wheel climbed a small bump with a rock. I put my car on reverse and pressed the accelerator. The car first refused to reverse then went completely out of control. The engine produced a huge revving noise and the car accelerated, taking the car backward at high speed. I had no control. The car went off the road, climbed a hill at a 45 degree incline on one side of the road. It continued up the hill at high speed until it hit a tree. The impact caused about 1 foot of the passenger side to be a mangled mass of steel from the rear fender to the front passenger door. The gas tank was exposed but intact. *There were no injuries because I was the only occupant and the driver's side was unaffected. If there were persons in the passenger rear seat, there would have been serious injury. *The damage was obvious (I have photographs) and was witnessed by two onlookers and the tow-truck driver. The insurance company (AAA) declared the car totalled and settled. They did not w

Around once a week, while utilizing the car in comfort mode, the car will appear to kick into neutral when stopped at a traffic light. When itâs time to accelerate, despite indicating itâs in drive, the car will not move as if itâs in neutral. The car must then be shifted into drive again to be able to move.
While driving on the freeway, in a construction zone, at night, in the rain, the windshield wipers of my vehicle stopped working and froze in the upright (vertical) position. Because it was raining, and night time, I pulled to the side of the road and engaged the hazard lights. I attempted to restart the vehicle several times, as well as to turn the wipers on and off several times, to no avail. The dealership the car was taken to was able to confirm that the wipers did not, in fact, work. There was no warning that the wipers would stop working, no lamps came on, and no symptoms indicated that the wipers would fail. The vehicle has since been repaired and, therefore, not available for inspection.
vehicle shifts in to neutral while driving causing loss of control...had to pull over and restart the vehicle to get it back into the drive mode...it has done this twice.....last week the most severe ...very dangerous on a crowded highway

On December 3, 2022, my new 2023 AMG GLE53, with less than 300 miles on the odometer, completely failed to issue a Forward Collision Warning and to activate the Automatic Emergency Braking when approaching at approximately 25 mph a city intersection, causing an accident with a vehicle that was stopped at the traffic light. That misbehavior was very unexpected from a vehicle that is supposed to be equipped with very advanced modern technologies for the safety of passengers and other road users. We were lucky that there was no injury, but that accident caused a lot of damages to both vehicles, exceeding several thousands of dollars, in addition to my disappointment of not seeing any of the advanced safety elements of the vehicle to operate as advertised. I would strongly recommend an investigation initiated by NHTSA, as the issue may not be isolated, and other users may be at risk. Thank you
