DESIGN OF INTAKE MANIFOLD FROM MANUFACTURER WAS FLAWED. MANUFACTURER CORRECTED THIS FLAW 2 YEARS LATER. HOWEVER, IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR, MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE RESULT OF INFERIOR PARTS BEING PLACED ON THIS VEHICLE AT MANUFACTURED DATE. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD IS PLACED NEAR A HEAT SOURCE AND AS A RESULT, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD MELTED CAUSING A HOLE AND THE LOSS OF RADIATOR FLUID AND INABILITY TO OPERATE VEHICLE. THE REPAIR BILL WAS $810.00. THE REPAIR SHOP SUGGESTED CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED ME TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER HERE LOCALLY. THE DEALER HAS REFERRED ME BACK TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR REIMBURSEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED ME BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REIMBURSEMENT. I AM BEING BATTED BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE TWO JUST TO GET REIMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSE OF REPAIRING A DESIGN FLAW BY THE MANUFACTURER. OBVIOUSLY, THEY RECOGNIZED THE DESIGN FLAW IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IN TWO YEARS OF THIS VEHICLE BEING SOLD TO THE PUBLIC WITH THE FLAW, THEY REDESIGNED

I PARKED MY CAR IN FRONT OF A BUSINESS AND WAS GONE ABOUT 1/2 AN HOUR. WHEN I RETURNED TO MY CAR IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. A TOW SERVICE TRIED JUMP STARTING IT BUT IT WOULD ONLY LAST ABOUT 30 SECONDS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANICS SHOP AND THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSIS. ACCORDING TO THEM IT NEEDED A BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. SO I APPROVED THE REPAIRS TO BE DONE. WHEN THE REPAIRS WERE DONE THE MECHANIC TOOK IT ON A TEST DRIVE AND CLAIMS THAT DURING THE TEST DRIVE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD POPPED SO HE RETURNED THE CAR TO THE SHOP. THE REPAIRS FOR THE ORIGINAL WORK WAS $522.00 NOW THE REPAIRS ARE AT$1330.00. I CAN NOT AFFORD IT. I AM WITHOUT A CAR AND HAVE NO OTHER CAR. *JB

I HAD A 1996 LINCOLN TOWNE CAR. I HAVE HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH IT AND MOST INCLUDED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. SOMETIMES IT WOULDN'T START OR OTHER TIMES IT WOULD JUST TURN OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. I HAD TAKEN IT OVER THE YEARS TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THE LAST OF JULY I STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT AND PUT IT IN PARK TO REACH BACK TO THE BACK SEAT. WHEN I WENT TO PUT THE BRAKE ON TO PUT IT INTO GEAR AGAIN THE BRAKE PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I PUT THE BRAKE ON AGAIN TO PUT IT IN PARK AND GO ACROSS THE STREET TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. I HAD SHUT THE MOTOR OFF AND PUT THE FLASHERS ON. I WAS INSIDE THE BUILDING WHEN A GUY CAME IN AND WANTED TO KNOW IF WE KNEW THERE WAS A CAR ON FIRE IN THE INTERSECTION! IT TOOK FOREVER FOR THE FIRE DEPT. TO GET THERE! ANYWAY, IT BURNED ALL THE WAY TO THE GROUND. I ONLY HAD LIABILITY AND AM S.O.L. I LEARNED A LESSEN THAT DAY. NEVER GET A FORD! MAYBE YOU CAN GET FORD TO FIX THESE THINGS BEFORE SOM

DRIVING MY 1996 LINCOLN TOWN CAR VEHICLE ID #[XXX] TO WORK WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT APPEARED IN MY DASH AND I LOST MOST OF MY BRAKING POWER. I DROVE SLOWLY TO THE NEAREST REPAIR SHOP WHERE I WAS INFORMED MY BRAKE LINES WHERE CORRODED AND LEAKING. THIS SURPRISED ME AS THE CAR IS VERY LOW MILEAGE.WHAT SURPRISED ME MORE WAS THE COST OF REPAIR. I INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM ON-LINE AND FOUND A RECALL FOR THIS MODEL/YEAR LINCOLN FOR PRECISELY THIS PROBLEM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 98I001000. JUST TWO DAYS AGO I WAS TOWING MY BOAT. A BRAKE FAILURE WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. FORDS RECALL DESK HAS INFORMED ME MY VEHICLE ID IS NOT AMONG THOSE RECALLED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS CAMPAIGN COVERED VEHICLES FROM 1995-1997 HOW IS MY VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED. THIS IS JUST COINCIDENCE! BECAUSE OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD DEFECT NOT BEING CORRECTED PROPERLY THE COMPLETE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE IN TWO CONSECTUTIVE MONTHS ALSO REQUIRING OTHER ENGINE COMPONENTS TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST AND THE DEALERS TAKING TWO MONTHS FOR REPAIRS WITHOUT ANY REIMBURSEMENT BY DEALERS OR FORD MOTOR CO FOR AUTO RENTALS ETC. IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,032.33 ALL DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE DEFECTIVE INTAKE MANIFOLD!

THE HEADLIGHT PROBLEM HAS BEEN A MAJOR PROBLEM, NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE FREQUENCY OF FAILURE, BUT ALSO THE AVAILABILITY OF THE PARTS. AT ONE POINT, THE DEALER GAVE ME A NOTE TO CARRY IN MY CAR IN CASE I WAS STOPPED TO SHOW THE HEADLIGHT WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. IT TOOK MONTHS TO GET THE LIGHT AND I FELT THAT MY SAFETY WAS BEING COMPROMISED. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES, ONLY NOW THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND MY COST FOR THIS NECESSARY SAFETY ITEM IS IN EXCESS OF $800.00! I BELIEVE THIS PRICE IS TOTALLY OUT OF LINE. PLEASE ADVISE ME IF YOU ARE AWARE OF ANY COURSE OF ACTION THAT CAN BE TAKEN ON THIS MATTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU, BARB GARY
