Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2021 IS is unknown or other with 2 filings. Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 3 investigation files overlapping the 2021 IS. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. I was in a vehicle accident on March 30. A accident that could have been avoided if the horn on the IS350 2021 was louder. The vehicle that collided into my vehicle was a Dodge Ram that was hauling a travel trailer which was what hit me. I tried honking various times to let the driver know that I was present and that they were merging onto my lane and I believe due to the weak sound of the horns installed in these vehicles the driver of the other car did not hear my warnings and collided into me.
The sunroof exploded while driving on a freeway. No rocks were involved, very loud explosion. Sun shade was closed, which prevented glass from getting inside car.
