Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2016 GS 350 is fuel/propulsion system with 2 filings, followed by engine (1) and steering (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 3 investigation files overlapping the 2016 GS 350. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. When I am driving at high speeds, 60+ MPH, the steering wheel starts to act up. The wheel feels as if it locks and needs to be jerked out of position to move. Sometimes when I am turning, the wheel feels as if it locks and again I need to jerk it out of position, which makes me swerve. It does not happen when I am driving on the street or at low speeds, it happens at higher speeds. The wheel sometimes feels locked for a few seconds and needs to be jerked to "unlock" it or whatever is happening.
