TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TIRE PRESSURE, SYSTEM SUSPENSION, BONNET, BRAKE, TRANSMISSION, DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL, AND ELECTRONIC TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ONLY WAY THE INDICATORS SHUT OFF WAS BY TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LAND ROVER TAMPA (11301 N FLORIDA AVE, TAMPA, FL 33612, (813) 930-2505) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO DAYS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AGAIN, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,906.

I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 25MPH ON A CITY STREET AND BEGAN TO BRAKE GENTLY AS I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. THE DISTANCE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT THE TIME I BEGAN BRAKING WAS OVER 3-CARS-LENGTH, BUT NOT MORE THAN 4. THIS WAS NOT AN ABRUPT STOP. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKE I COULD FEEL IT BEGAN TO SHUDDER AND THE CAR WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. I PRESSED THE BRAKE MORE FIRMLY AND WHILE IT DID RESPOND MORE SO THAN BEFORE, THE CAR WAS BY NO MEANS SLOWING DOWN AT A FAST ENOUGH RATE CONSIDERING HOW LONG I HAD BEEN APPLYING THE BRAKE AND THE FACT THAT I WAS ONLY TRAVELING AT 25MPH TO BEGIN WITH. I FELT A PULSATING THAT BECAME INCREASINGLY PRONOUNCED AND EVENTUALLY THE BRAKE FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS LOCKED IN PLACE AND UNRESPONSIVE TO MY APPLICATION OF FURTHER PRESSURE. THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN BUT IT WAS NOT DOING SO AT THE NORMAL RATE. IT WOULD HAVE LIKELY REQUIRED 2-3 TIMES THE NORMAL DISTANCE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CAR IS TEN YEARS OLD. THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF NEW, NON-DEFECTIVE AIRBAG KEEPS GETTING PUSHED BACK. THE LATEST IS "MAYBE THIS YEAR" (PER RANGE ROVER REPRESENTATIVE KATHLEEN VACCARRO, 201 818 8080). WHEN PRESSED, VACCARRO CONCEDES THAT WHAT IT BOILS DOWN TO IS THAT RANGE ROVER HAS MADE THE JUDGMENT THAT IT IS OK FOR ITS CUSTOMERS TO BE DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD OF TIME. WHEN PRESSED, SHE CONCEDES (AS ANYONE HAS TO CONCEDE) THAT NO-ONE KNOWS THE POINT AT WHICH THE INFLATOR WILL HAVE DEGRADED AND WILL EXPLODE. IF I WANTED TO GO SKYDIVING AND TRUST THAT THE PARACHUTE USUALLY OPENS, THEN THAT IS MY DECISION. WHAT RANGE ROVER IS DOING IS MAKING THAT DECISION FOR ME, AGAINST MY WILL.
