The contact owns a 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport. The contact stated that the gear shifter failed to shift into park(P). Several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the gear shifter assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 55,700.

They were coming home from there doctors appointment on [XXX] and traveling about 50 MPH heading home and all the sudden my father tried to press on the brakes to slow down and there was no brakes at all. The Power Transfer Unit(PTU) failed catastrophically at the rear pinion. This is available for inspection until it is repaired. This could have caused a major crash, at the time I was on the interstate only going 30-40mph and was able to get to the shoulder. But if I had been going faster there was a possibility of me pole-vaulting. Unknown The component is currently being inspected by the dealer. I was driving and the vehicle car stalled it said gear box defect and switched from reverse to drive to neutral but would not move. The vehicle has a terrible delay when accelerating from a rolling stop between 8-11 mph. If you try to accelerate and the vehicle is at this speed, the delay is about 2-3 seconds before the transmission gets it into gear.
