THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE ACCELERATOR CABLE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE DEFECT ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V028000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS INELIGIBLE UNDER THE RECALL. PURCHASED VEHICLE IN JULY IT HAS BEEN LOOKED AT AND REPAIRED 8 TIMES. TWICE TO THE DEALER, THE SECOND TIME THEY TOLD ME IT HAD A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK AND WOULD COST 10,000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE(THAT'S WHAT I PAID FOR THE CAR). THE FIRST TIME IT WAS THERE FOR AN INSPECTION THEY TOLD ME IN 2002 THEY REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND 2005 IT WAS THERE FOR OVERHEATING ISSUES. THE COOLANT FLUID WOULD NOT STAY IN AND KEPT LEAKING. IT CONSTANTLY OVERHEATED AND WHEN I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT, BEFORE I EVEN GOT HOME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT'S BEING HELD AT A REPAIR SHOP THAT THE DEALER TOOK IT TO BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY THEM TO FIX WHAT THEY SAY IS WRONG WITH IT AND I THOUGHT THE DEALER WAS GOING TO FIX IT. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2000 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II (WITH 50,000 MILES) ON MD HIGHWAY 15 WITH MY THREE CHILDREN WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SLOW STOP. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. SHE CALLED FOR A TOW AND WE HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED AT A LOCAL MECHANIC. WHEN I FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENED I WAS ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDED. THE VEHICLES UNIVERSAL JOINT FAILED CAUSING THE DRIVE SHAFT TO FALL FROM THE TRANSFER CASE AND CRACK THE TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED AND CARED FOR EXTREMELY WELL-IT WAS CONSIDERED TO BE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. A CAR WITH 50,000 MILES SHOULD NOT HAVE THE UNIVERSAL JOINT FAIL. THE MECHANIC WAS VERY CLEAR IN STATING IT WAS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURING FLAW. AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE, MY WIFE WAS ON THE OFF RAMP TRAVELING AT 15 MILES AN HOUR-IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED, THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN QUITE DIFFERENT; I AM LUCKY NO BODY WAS HURT. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2000 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II (WITH 50,000 MILES) ON MD HIGHWAY 15 WITH MY THREE CHILDREN WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A SLOW STOP. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. SHE CALLED FOR A TOW AND WE HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED AT A LOCAL MECHANIC. WHEN I FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENED I WAS ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDED. THE VEHICLES UNIVERSAL JOINT FAILED CAUSING THE DRIVE SHAFT TO FALL FROM THE TRANSFER CASE AND CRACK THE TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED AND CARED FOR EXTREMELY WELL-IT WAS CONSIDERED TO BE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. A CAR WITH 50,000 MILES SHOULD NOT HAVE THE UNIVERSAL JOINT FAIL. THE MECHANIC WAS VERY CLEAR IN STATING IT WAS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURING FLAW. AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE, MY WIFE WAS ON THE OFF RAMP TRAVELING AT 15 MILES AN HOUR-IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED, THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN QUITE DIFFERENT; I AM LUCKY NO BODY WAS HURT. I IMMEDIATELY HAD IT TOWED TO LAND ROVER BETHE

I HAVE A 2000 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY, WHICH I LOVE AND DESPITE THAT MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MANY TIMES, (ALMOST EVERY FEW MONTHS) I STILL LOVE MY TRUCK, SO I BOUGHT MY HUSBAND ONE ALSO, HE HAS A 2001 LAND ROVER, BUT JUST RECENTLY I HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AND I WAS TOLD MY ENGINE SIZED AND I HAVE TO REPLACE THE HEADS OR THE COMPLETE ENGINE, THIS WAS ALL CAUSED FROM A COOLANT LEAK IN MY THROTTLE BODY, AND THE VEHICLE NEVER GAVE A WARNING THAT MY ENGINE WAS RUNNING TO HOT OR TO COLD, THAT IS WHY THERE IS A GAGE ON THE DASH TO PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION. AND NOW MY HUSBAND HAS A 2001 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY AND HE IS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS, VEHICLE ONLY HAS 79,000 MILES ON IT . AND NO-ONE AT LAND ROVER WILL HELP. I AM SO VERY UPSET. *JB
