TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE HAND BRAKE WAS APPLIED. THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED INTO GEAR AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER, BUT THEY ARE UNSURE AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 39,000.

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER TRIED TO RESTART VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. TEMPERATURE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO OVERHEATING. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE ENGINE OFF AND THE IGNITION SET IN THE FULL "OFF" POSITION. MY WIFE AND I WERE IN THE VEHICLE PREPARING TO DEPART. THE CONTROL CONSOLE BETWEEN THE FRONT SEATS BEGAN TO EMIT SMOKE AND A BURNING SMELL IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. WITHIN 30 SECONDS, THE CONSOLE CAUGHT FIRE AND EMITTED A NOXIOUS CLOUD OF SMOKE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP VEHICLE WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL, VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. INSTEAD, IT SLAMMED INTO THE GARAGE DOOR. THE ONLY WAY VEHICLE TO STOP VEHICLE WAS TO TURN IGNITION OFF. CONSUMER FELT VEHICLE WAS VERY UNSAFE. *AK
