The contact owns a 1995 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, the contact observed gasoline leaking from the rear of the vehicle where the fuel tank was located. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V203000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); the VIN was included, but the vehicle had never been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The contact was informed that he could schedule the recall repair with the nearest dealer; however, the nearest dealer was 6 hours away, and the manufacturer had refused to cover the cost of towing the vehicle. The failure mileage was unknown.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE ATOP A HILL, THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE APPLIED, AND THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WITNESSED THE VEHICLE ROLLING DOWNHILL AND STRIKING A TREE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONTAL IMPACT DAMAGE AND THE FRONTAL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE REAR WHO WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE POLICE WERE ON THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. I AM UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING ON YOUR WEB SITE THAT GUARANTEES THIS LETTER I RECEIVED IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY VEHICLE. LAND ROVER MAINTAINS THAT I NEED TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO INSPECT THE FUEL TANK. TIRE FAILED, VEHICLE BECAME UNSTABLE AND ROLLED OVER GAS TANK INTEGRITY FAILED, GAS SPLILLED AND IGNITED. MY SEVEN YEAR OLD SON WAS BURNED TO DEATH, MY 2 YEAR OLD, MY WIFE AND MYSELF SENT TO HOSPITAL WITH THIRD DEGREE BURNS. LAND ROVER OFFICIALS AGREED TO A RECALL TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE. RECALL WAS TO TAKE PLACE BY APRIL 2003. IT HAS NOT. I BELIEVE THEY ARE INTENTIONALLY DRAGGING THEIR FEET TO SAVE A FEW PENNIES AND ARE PUTTING OTHER LAND ROVER OWNERS AT RISK IN THE MEANTIME.*AK

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE DRIVER AND TWO PASSENGERS SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES, AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL. THE THIRD PASSENGER DIED. MY SON HAD AN ACCIDENT IN OUR 1995 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. HE LOST CONTROL AND HIT A PARKED CAR WITH THE FRONT OF THE LAND ROVER AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY CONSIDERS THE LAND ROVER A TOTAL LOSS. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT WE ARE CONCERNED THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER TOLD US THAT WITH THIS MUCH DAMAGE THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING THAT SOME REGULATORY AGENCY SHOULD BE AWARE OF. WE PURCHASE VEHICLES WITH SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND HAVE NO WAY OF DETERMINING IF THEY WILL ACTUALLY WORK WHEN NEEDED.*AK

WHILE DRIVING MY 1995 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY, WHEN EVER MY CELL PHONE ( MOTOROLA STARTAC) WOULD RING, THERE APPEARED TO BE A LOT OF CHATTER (CLICKING OF RELAYS SOUND) FROM THE FUSE BOX. I FINALLY AFTER REPLACING ALL THE FUSES AND RELAYS , REPLACED ALTERNATOR TWICE AND A NEW BATTERY , THE PHONE COMPANY NOTIFIED ME THAT THE CELL PHONE WOULD NOT WORK CORRECTLY WITH THEIR NEW (AT&T/PACBELL) SYSTEM AND REPLACED IT WITH A NOKIA. THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY AFTER MAKING THE CELL PHONE SWAP.
