Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1993 CLASSIC is seat belts with 1 filings, followed by fuel system, gasoline:storage (1) and fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.

NHTSA currently has 12 investigation files overlapping the 1993 CLASSIC, and 3 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A RECALL LETTER WAS RECEIVED IN EARLY 2006; THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR. THEN A SECOND LETTER WAS RECEIVED AND THE VEHICLE DID HAVE A FUEL LEAK, THE DEALERSHIP WAS ALERTED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE. THE DEALERSHIP BEGAN TO PERFORM THE RECALL WORK. THE CONTACT WAS ALERTED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DAMAGED WHEN THE TANK ASSEMBLY WAS TAKEN OFF THE VEHICLE AND NEEDED TO BE ORDERED, BUT WOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL ALSO. THE DEALERSHIP THEN CALLED THE CONTACT BACK AND STATED THE VIN FOR THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED AND NEITHER COMPONENT WOULD BE INCLUDED. THE CONTACT ACQUIRED THE VIN FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER THAT DETERMINED THIS WAS NOT AN ACCURATE VIN AND THERE WAS NO RECORD OF THIS RECALL. THERE IS NOT AN NHTSA RECALL NUMBER, BUT THE NUMBER ON THE LETTER IS B156. UPDATED 07/03/06. *JB

THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF THESE VEHICLES IN NORTH AMERICA, HOWEVER, EVERY VEHICLE HAS THE ISSUE OF MAJOR RUST IN THE LOWER DOOR SILL AREA WHERE THE SEAT BELT ANCHOR IS LOCATED! ADDITIONALLY, THE FUEL TANK ON THIS VEHICLE HAS RUSTED THROUGH, AND IS NOW LEAKING.
