TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL LEVER MELTED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE, BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.

1999 JEEP WRANGLER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BEING A LEMON *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. BUT, IN FACT IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE SHE SUFFERED A NECK INJURY. *JB

A WHILE AGO I HAD THE CLIMATE CONTROLS GO OUT IN MY 1999 JEEP WRANGLER. UPON INVESTIGATION, I FOUND THAT THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR AND THE CLIMATE CONTROLS HAD MELTED DUE TO THE HEAT GENERATED FROM THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION. I REPLACED THE CLIMATE CONTROLS IN MY JEEP, HOWEVER, THE ELECTRICAL WIRING STILL GETS VERY HOT. I DID SOME CHECKING IN JEEP FORUMS AND APPARENTLY, THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN THE "TJ" JEEP MODEL. 1ST ISSUE: THE DASH GAUGES WILL GO OFF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE FOUGHT WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS NOW. THE DEALER OF COURSE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. NEVER HEARD OF IT. I HAVE COMPLETELY REMOVED THE DASH LOOKING FOR PROBLEMS. BAD GROUNDS? I CAN'T TELL WHERE. I SUSPECT THE PLUGS THE CLUSTER SLIPS INTO. I'VE TRIED TO PULL THE MOUNTS CLOSER FOR A BETTER CONNECTION. DEAR SIR OR MADAM: RECENTLY THE AIR CONDITIONING MY 1999 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT STOPPED WORKING AND THERE WAS AN IMMEDIATE SMELL OF SMOKE COMING FROM WITHIN THE DASH BOARD. UPON PARTIALLY DISASSEMBLING THE DASH BOARD'S CENTER CONSOLE AND REMOVING THE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROLS IT WAS APPARENT THAT A SMALL FIRE OR OVERHEATED WIRING CONNECTOR HAD MELTED THE FAN SPEED CONTROL SWITCH AND THE AIR OUTPUT SELECTOR SWITCH. VEHICLE IN QUESTION WAS FITTED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED, BRAKE PEDAL WENT BELOW ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IF ONE WAS NOT VERY CAREFUL, THE ACCELERATOR WOULD ALSO BE DEPRESSED WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. AFTER THE FACT, I REMEDIED THE SITUATION BY AFFIXING A ONE AND A HALF INCH BLOCK OF ALUMINUM TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. *AK
