The 2010JEEPGRAND CHEROKEE carries 171 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 18 crashes, 5 fires, 4 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2010 GRAND CHEROKEE is electrical system with 45 filings, followed by power train (22) and engine (21). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 5 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 6 investigation files overlapping the 2010 GRAND CHEROKEE. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

The Air Bag warning light came on after we got an oil change for our car.
The contact owns a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 8 MPH through a parking area, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own. As a result, the vehicle traveled 100 feet before coming to a complete stop after colliding with two light poles and a tree. The air bags did deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. The contact was transported to an area hospital by EMT and was treated for whiplash, hearing loss, and pain in his back and knees. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,000.

The air bag light comes on every now and then. It happened in my previous jeep and is happening in my dad's Chrysler Sebring car as well. I seen this problem with the airbag automatic deactivation when the warning light comes on in different vehicles but all from Chrysler motors.

Driving 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee with HEMI engine on the freeway and the car lost engine power causing it to rapidly slow. Was able to make it safely to the side of the freeway, although multiple cars had to avoid, and had the car towed to our mechanic. The mechanic stated that the car needed an entire new engine as there were issues with the timing chain that then caused issues to the surrounding valves. In doing research, as this car only has 98,000 miles and is always serviced, I found that Chrysler has already recalled the Challengers with the same 5.7L HEMI engines, but has not done so for the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee's. We are at a loss and looking at $8,000-$10,000 to get a new engine and pay for labor. Currently looking for an attorney or an existing class action lawsuit as if we knew there were problems, we would have done things ahead of time to prevent the engine failure. There was NO WARNING provided on this issue, but have now found multiple individual complaints abo

REFERENCE: NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V200000 WHILE DRIVING, IF THE VEHICLE GOES OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD THE KEY FOB MAY FALL OUT OF THE IGNITION MODULE. WHILE STATIONARY, THE KEY MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH (WIN MODULE) PRIOR TO PLACING THE SHIFTER IN PARK. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE POTENTIAL FOR UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT AND COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

WHEN JEEP IS STARTED AFTER BEING PARKED. WONT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. WHEN IGNITION IS TURNED OFF, ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN EVEN AFTER KEY IS REMOVED. ALL OTHER ELECTRIC COMPONENTS TURN OFF EXCEPT FOR ENGINE. SAFETY RELEASE BUTTON WAS PUSHED TO GET JEEP OUT OF GEAR, BUT WHEN PUT BACK IN PARK, IT GETS STUCK AGAIN. IS THERE A RECALL ON IGNITION SWITCH OR MODULE SWITCH THATS CAUSING THIS?
