The 2000JEEPGRAND CHEROKEE carries 1855 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 132 crashes, 24 fires, 113 injuries, and 2 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE is service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc:rotor with 239 filings, followed by seats (167) and service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc (89). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 12 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 6 investigation files overlapping the 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

Drivers front seat has come loose from the bottom and is now wobbly, uncomfortable to sit on it and appears dangerous to drive as its not secure. There are lots of complaints about this happening to others on the internet.
After sending my Jeep Grand Cherokee to Pughâs Service Center in Greenville, NC, in December 2018, because it would turnover, but not start. They replaced the ECM, but had to be taken to the local Jeep dealership for an OE ECM replacement and a crankshaft sensor, in order to get it to crank. Upon getting my Jeep back in March 2019, it ran fine for a few days. Then I went to start it, and it started, but after a few seconds, all of the GAUGES stopped working and all of the WARNING LIGHTS came on. I contacted both Pughâs and the Jeep dealership, telling me I should just bring it in, to run more diagnostics. The Jeep only has 94,000 miles, and I spent about what the vehicle was worth upon getting it back in March 2019; so Iâve been hesitant on taking it back. There are many other people who have similar issues with the instrument panel gauges and warning lights, from the information Iâve researched online; with no indications of the problem being resolved.
