WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT I THOUGHT I COULD HEAR A SCRAPING NOISE. I PROMPTLY ROLLED DOWN MY WINDOW AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE SLOWLY. I DIDN'T HEAR THE NOISE SO PROCEEDED HOME. A FEW MILES LATER I PULLED INTO MY DRIVE AND A POLICE OFFICER PULLED UP TO TELL ME METAL WAS LOOSE UNDER MY VEHICLE AND SHOOTING SPARKS OUT OF THE REAR. THE NEXT MORNING I CHECKED AND A LARGE PIECE OF RUSTED METAL WAS HANGING BY A THREAD SO I REMOVED IT. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND WAS SHOWN THAT 2 OF THE 3 STRAPS HOLDING MY GAS TANK IN PLACE WERE COMPLETELY GONE AND THE THIRD IS BROKEN AND RUSTED THROUGH. MY VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I HAD NO IDEA. I LOOKED TO SEE IF THIS WAS A RECALL ISSUE AND IT IS NOT. I SEARCHED TO SEE IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT IT IS EXTREMELY COMMON ACROSS THE ENTIRE JEEP LINE. IF MY GAS TANK WERE TO SEPARATE OR BE PUNCTURED IT COULD NOT ONLY CAUSE AN EXPLOSION KILLING ME AND MY FAMILY BUT COULD KILL/SERIOUSLY INJURE ANYONE ON THE ROAD BEHIN

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAITED APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (ZIMMERMAN MOTORS, 1301 MARKET STREET, SUNBURY, PA 17801), BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR THE PAST FOUR MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THREE INDEPENDENT MECHANICS, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.

INTERMITTENT STARTING ISSUE. THE JEEP WILL DRIVE FINE BUT ONCE YOU TURN IT OFF IT IS A COIN TOSS WHETHER IT WILL START AGAIN. I HAVE FOUND THAT IF YOU CRAWL UNDERNEATH THE JEEP AND PUSH IN ON THE YELLOW WIRE CONNECTED TO THE STARTER, IT WILL IMMEDIATELY START. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A POORLY DESIGNED CONNECTOR, AS IT IS OBVIOUSLY NOT WEATHER PROOF BUT IT IS IN AN AREA THAT NEEDS TO BE WATER TIGHT. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE ONLINE, BUT WHEN YOU CALL THE DEALERSHIPS THEY TELL YOU THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE.

I DROVE TO A GAS STATION ABOUT 5 MILES FROM MY HOME TO FUEL UP. AFTER FUELING UP, I TRIED TO START THE ENGINE AND IT RAN ROUGH FOR LESS THAN A SECOND AND THEN SHUT OFF. I TRIED TO START IT AGAIN AND IT RAN BUT HAD A LOUD KNOCK SO I IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I TOWED IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO SAID I HAD A DROPPED VALVE SEAT AND WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE ODOMETER WAS AT 106,000 MILES WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
