FOR AT LEAST A YEAR NOW THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HAVE YOU RECALL JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES YEARS 1993-2004. THEY SAY THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 64 DEATHS DUE TO THIS DEFECT. JUST YESTERDAY, A FAMILY OF 4 WAS OUT ON A DRIVE WHEN THEY WERE REARENDED. THE JEEP BURST INTO FLAMES. THE PAPERS AND NEWS CHANNELS SAY THE GAS TANK WAS IN THE WRONG PLACE AND IT JUST COULDN'T BE STOPPED. THE ENTIRE FAMILY, TWO CHILDREN, AGES 4 AND 11, AND THE PARENTS WERE KILLED IN THIS ACCIDENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH WITHOUT WARNING WHEN SHE PLACED THE GEAR INTO DRIVE. SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. SHE CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD, NECK, AND BACK INJURIES AS WELL AS CUTS AND SCRATCHES ON HER KNEES. 1994 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO SMALL SPARE TIRE. **CC THE CONSUMER HAD A FLAT TIRE AND CHANGED IT WITH THE FACTORY SPARE PROVIDED. ABOUT 10-15 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE CONSUMER HEARD A POP AND THOUGHT HE HAD ANOTHER FLAT. HE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND SAW SMOKE AND FLAMES COMING OUT OF THE DIFFERENTIAL CASE. THE CONSUMER RAN A SAFE DISTANCE AND WATCH THE VEHICLE BURN BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED SHORTLY AFTER AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. TH

I WORK FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS PARKING DEPARTMENT. WE HAD AN INCIDENT WHERE A JEEP CHEROKEE WAS ROLLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION WAS IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PARKED ON A UPSLOPED RAMP, AND THEN BEGAN TO SLOWLY ROLL BACK OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE. THE ROLLOUT WAS VERY GRADUAL. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY PLACING BRICKS BEHIND THE TIRES. WHEN THE OWNER CAME TO GET HIS VEHICLE, I WAS UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH HIM SINCE HE SPOKE SPANISH.*AK
