The 2002ISUZUN-SERIES carries 4 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2002 N-SERIES is engine and engine cooling:cooling system:fan with 1 filings, followed by power train:axle assembly (1) and power train:driveline:differential unit (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 1 active recall campaign, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 3 investigation files overlapping the 2002 N-SERIES. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2002 ISUZU RODEO FROM FOX CHEVROLET ISUZU LOCATED AT 501 WASHINGTON BOULEVARD LAUREL, MARYLAND. IN 2004 THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED THEIR BUSINESS AND NAME TO FOX OF LAUREL BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM THIS LOCATION I CONTINUED TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THEM FOR SERVICE. I QUESTIONED WHETHER THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO SERVICE MY VEHICLE ,AND WAS ASSURED THAT THEY COULD CONTINUE TO PROVIDE SERVICE TO MY VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH THEY NO LONGER SOLD ISUZU CARS. ON JANUARY 23, 2007 I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FOX OF LAUREL BECAUSE I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING FROM THE ENGINE, AND THE HEAT WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $872.71. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME HEAT PROBLEM AND RETURNED ON FEBRUARY 22, 2007 TO FOX OF LAUREL FOR REPAIRS AGAIN, THE PROBLEM WAS NOT REPAIRED, AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE ON MARCH 72007 . AT THIS TIME I WAS INFORMED AND GIVEN A COPY OF THE WARRANTY BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF FOX LAUREL THAT I NEED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN
WE HAVE 6 ISUZU NPR LIGHT TRUCKS IN OUR FLEET. WE HAVE HAD THE SPIDER AND RING GEAR FAIL ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS ON EACH VEHICLE. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE FAILURES COME COMPLETELY UNEXPECTEDLY ( NO WARNING) AND THE VEHICLE IS IMMEDIATELYU DISABLED WHEREEVER IT MIGHT BE-EVEN IN THE FAST LANE ON THE EXPRESSWAY. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY LOOSES ALL POWER TO THE REAR AND CANNOT BE MOVED . THE COULD IMPEDE TRAFFIC ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND POTENTIALLY DISABLE THE VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. WE HAVE HAD OVER 8 FAILURES OF EXACTLY THE SAME PART ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT IDENTICAL VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WERE PURCHASES AT THE SAME TIME, HOWEVER IDENTICAL VEHICLE PURCHASES AT ANOTHER TIME DO NOT HAVE THIS FAULT. WE HAVE REPLACED EACH OF THESE PARTS AND THEY CONTINUE TO FAIL.*AK
