Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2008 M45 is air bags with 3 filings, followed by engine (2) and steering (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 6 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 7 investigation files overlapping the 2008 M45. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. WHILE DRIVING EAST (UPHILL) ON I-90 FROM SEATTLE TOWARD SNOQUALMIE PASS, MY CAR SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY VEERED INTO THE ADJACENT LANE, LITERALLY TEARING/TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF MY HANDS. I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY TO LET MY HEART RATE SLOW DOWN. ON MY RETURN TRIP, DOWNHILL, THE SAME TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE OCCURRED, NARROWLY AVOIDING A COLLISION WITH A TRUCK. A BIT OF INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALED THAT THIS EXPERIENCE IS CALLED "TRAMLINING" AND THAT MANY INFINITI MODELS/YEARS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO SUFFER FROM IT. I REPORTED MY EXPERIENCES TO MY LOCAL INFINITI DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER, BUT HE ACTED BAFFLED BY THE TERM "TRAMLINING" AND TOLD ME, "AFTER ALL, YOU OWN A 45S, A SPORT MODEL." HE CHARGED ME A BUNDLE TO PUT NEW TIRES ON MY CAR, BUT THE TRAMLINING PROBLEM HASN'T GONE AWAY -- ONLY MY MONEY. *TR
