Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2011 GENESIS COUPE is service brakes, hydraulic with 5 filings, followed by service brakes (3) and power train (3). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 4 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 37 investigation files overlapping the 2011 GENESIS COUPE, and 1 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

The brake lines and fuel lines were corroded. The corrosion of the brake lines would lead to brake failure and the corrosion of the fuel lines would lead to a fire. The Hyundai dealer was the first to find the brake problem and after inspection by my mechanic, the fuel lines were also found to be corroded. I took my car in for a recall service at the dealer and after the service my brake light would illuminate when decelerating(with or without brakes being applied) .

Part number 82655-2M000 door handle base broke. This makes it so the door cannot be opened from the outside. If I were in an accident and my door was crushed no one could open the other door to get me out. This same pet was in a safety recall for a different model of theirs.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND MY BRAKES HAD BEEN WORKING FINE. ON MY WAY TO WORK WHILE APPROACHING A STOPLIGHT MY BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH LITTLE RESULT. I AM MEDIATELY PUMP MY BRAKES AFTERWARDS AND THE CORDED STOP. THE REST OF THE WAY TO WORK I HAD TO CONTINUOUSLY PUMP MY BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP. MY BRAKE FLUID WAS CHECKED AND WAS FULL. I DROVE HOME WITH SAME ISSUE AND HAVE NOT DROVE CAR SINCE. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST HAPPENED I CAME OFF A HIGHWAY EXIT TO A STOP LIGHT.

I HAD 53,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY MY STEERING WHEEL GOT STIFF AND TOOK AN EXIT. MY VEHICLE WAS IN SMOKE AND TOWED TO NEAR BY HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER. I WAS TOLD THAT TIMING BELT GOT BROKEN AND THAT IN-TURN CAUSED DAMAGE TO ENGINE PISTONS. HYUNDAI DECLINED TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE, AND SAID I HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL THE REPAIRS. I HAD TO SELL THE CAR FOR A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS, BECAUSE THEY ASKED ABOUT 7K TO FIX A REPLACEMENT ENGINE.

MY FATHER IS CURRENTLY LOOKING AFTER MY VEHICLE AND WHILE HE WAS DOING ROUTINE CHECKS WHEN WENT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PETAL IT SANK ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. HE LATER TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO THEN BLEED THE SYSTEM A FEW TIMES ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE AND REAR LEFT BRAKE ARE OPERATING AS NORMAL. AS IT WOULD TURN OUT, HOWEVER, HYUNDAI ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS BUT ONLY FOR THE GENESIS SEDANS AND NOT THE COUPES. HYUNDAI RECALL #114 AND NHTSA RECALL #13V489000 STATE THE BRAKE FLUID THE MANUFACTURE USES DOES NOT PROTECT THE H.E.C.U. OR HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (A.K.A. ABS CONTROL UNIT) AGAINST INTERNAL CORROSION. SO THE INTERNAL VALVES WILL CORRODED AND PREVENT THE BRAKES FROM OPERATING PROPERLY. IN MY 2011 GENESIS COUPE THIS IS CURRENTLY THE ISSUE. OTHER COUPE OWNERS ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES WHERE THEY CAN'T STOP THE CAR PROPER AND/OR THE BRAKE PETAL SINKS TO THE FLOOR AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING SLOW OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THE BRAKE DON'T OPERATE PROPERLY O

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI GENESIS. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP NORMALLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V113000 (SERVICE BRAKES). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
CAR HAS A MANUAL 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION WHICH HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE (ONCE UNDER WARRANTY FOR 5TH GEAR GRIND @ 45K MILES AND AGAIN AFTER FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED WITH < 30K ON NEW TRANSMISSION). I HAD TO PAY OVER $2K OUT OF POCKET FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION AS HYUNDAI WOULD NOT WARRANTY IT. THE 6SPD MANUAL TRANSMISSION IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON DEFECT FOR ALL GENESIS COUPE MODELS, WITH MANY OWNERS NEEDING TO REPLACE IT MORE THAN ONCE AND HYUNDAI WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
