HONDA IS RECALLING 38,934 MY 2006-2007 VT600 AND MY 2007-2008 VT750 AND VTX1300 MOTORCYCLES. THE MOTORCYCLES MAY HAVE AN IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED FUEL CONTROL VALVE DIAPHRAGM AND THE FUEL VALVE MAY DRIP FUEL.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda VT750. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of a leak coming from the fuel valve. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or local dealer. The contact related the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V141000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, MY HUSBAND WAS CLEANING MY BIKE WHEN HE NOTICED SOME DISCOLORATION ON THE ENGINE. UPON INVESTIGATION, HE FOUND THAT THE FUEL VALVE ON THE GAS TANK WAS DRIPPING GASOLINE. HE CONTACTED HONDA MOTORCYCLE CUSTOMER SERVICE TWICE AND BOTH TIMES WAS TOLD MY MOTORCYCLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THAT THE RECALL WAS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) SPECIFIC. DUE TO THE OBVIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS, I WENT AHEAD AND ORDERED A NEW OEM PART ON-LINE AND PAID FOR IT. MY HUSBAND SPENT TWO HOURS THIS WEEKEND REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE PART. I CONSIDER LEAKING GASOLINE ONTO A HOT ENGINE A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I ALSO FEEL A RECALL FOR SUCH AN ISSUE SHOULD NOT BE VIN SPECIFIC. IF THIS LEAK HAD NOT BEEN CAUGHT WHEN IT WAS, IT COULD HAVE EASILY ERUPTED INTO A FULL BLOWN FIRE SERIOUSLY INJURING ME OR MY HUSBAND AS WELL AS ANY INNOCENT BYSTANDERS. I ASK THAT SOMEONE PLEASE CONTACT THE HONDA CORPORATION AND SEE IF THEY WILL EXPAND THEIR RECALL.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA VT750 SHADOW AERO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE MOTORCYCLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE MOTORCYCLE RESTARTED; HOWEVER, THE MOTORCYCLE SPUTTERED ALL THE WAY TO THE RESIDENCE. ONCE PARKED, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL CONTROL VALVE. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PETCOCK VALVE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V141000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE TIRES "SKIP/HOP" AS THE BIKE IS DRIVEN @ 25 MPH AND ABOVE. NUMEROUS TECH'S HAVE DRIVEN THE BIKE AND AGREE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WAS TO REPLACE THE TIRE - NO CHANGE. NEXT IT WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT HONDA DEALER, WHERE THEIR ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WAS TO ADD MULTIPLE WEIGHTS TO THE WHEEL. BEFORE THEY PROCEEDED WITH THE REPAIR, HOWEVER, A REP FROM CORPORATE HONDA CAME OUT TO INSPECT THE MOTORCYCLE AND CLAIMED THE BIKE WAS PERFECTLY FINE. THIS IS A BRAND NEW (2007 MODEL) MOTORCYCLE AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE DEFECTS. BETWEEN THE CLUTCH AND THE WHEEL HOPS IT FEELS DANGEROUS TO RIDE.
