Within that volume, owners reported 1 crash, 0 fires, 1 injury, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1999 HONDA is power train:automatic transmission with 4 filings, followed by electrical system:ignition:switch (3) and engine and engine cooling:engine:gasoline (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.

NHTSA currently has 38 investigation files overlapping the 1999 HONDA, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH IN A 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO DIE WITHOUT WARNING. SWITCH WAS REPLACED IN 2002 AFTER RECALL NOTICE, AND AGAIN IN 2006 AFTER SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF CAR STALLING WHILE IN TRAFFIC. A YEAR LATER, THE CAR DIED AGAIN - SAME SYMPTOMS AS LAST YEAR. DEALER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE SWITCH COULD BE THE PROBLEM. *TR

TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE VEHICLE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY USUALLY WHEN HE TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS AN INCIDENT WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING, BUT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. THE LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONTACT HAS THE FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH WHICH SHOWS THE PLASTIC AND WIRES WERE MELTED.

20041227POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

NORMAL DRIVING OF MY 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY AND AT 107,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION FAILS. HONDA REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION BUT CHARGED ME THE LABOR EVEN THOUGH THERE EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES HAD EXPIRED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW I HAD A TRANSMISSION COOLER INSTALLED, WHICH I BELIEVE EXTENDED ITS LIFE. I BELIEVE HONDA HAS SURPRESSED A DRECALL ON THIS TRANSMISSION AND IS PASSING THE INSTALLATION LABOR ON TO THE CONSUMER. THEREFORE, I DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING.*AK

THE TRANMISSION ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD WENT OUT AT 10200. THIS IS THE THIRD HONDA THAT I HAVE OWNED AND I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY COULD GO AS HIGH AS 3-4000. I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR, AND I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A LAWSUIT AGAINST HONDA OR SOMETHING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.*AK
