Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1994 GL1500 is tires with 2 filings, followed by suspension:front (1) and electrical system:wiring:front underhood (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 77 investigation files overlapping the 1994 GL1500, and 9 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. FAILURE OF METZELER MOTORCYCLE TIRE SIZE 160 80-16B 75H TREAD CAME APART ON TIRE WHILE DRIVING MOUNTAIN ROADS. DOT XE 44 E2234113

CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE MOTORCYCLE WILL STALL AND DIED OUT WITH OUT WARNING DUE TO THE WIRING HARNESSES. A RECALL HAS BEEN ADVISED BUT HOWEVER THIS MAKE/MODEL AND YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
I HAVE HAD MY LAST TWO REAR TIRES FAIL THE SAME WAY AND BOTH WERE REPLACED BY ME WITH ONLY ABOUT 60% OF THE TIRE USED. THEY BOTH DEVELOPED A SMALL SEPERATION BETWEEN THE TREAD AT AROUND 5000 MILES AND GREW AS TIME WENT ON TO ABOUT 1 TO 1 1/2 INCHES IN LENGTH. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT THE FIRST TIME SO I THREW OUT THE TIRE, BUT WHEN IT HAPPENED A SECOND TIME I KEPT THE TIRE AND CONTACTED DUNLOP. I STILL HAVE THE TIRE. THEIR RESPONSE WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE TIRE WAS THAT IT APPEARS TO BE ROAD HAZARD RELATED. I DON'T BELIEVE IT BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN OTHER FRIENDS THAT RIDE THE SAME TYPE MOTORCYCLE EXPERIENCE THE SAME SPLIT. I TALKED WITH DUNLOP REP. COLLEEN LARKIN @ 800-847-3382. FEEL FREE TO CONTACT HER OR I FOR MORE INFORMATION. SHE HAS AGREED TO REPLACE THE TIRE AT NO COST TO ME, AFTER SOME WHINING FROM A 20 YEAR CUSTOMER. BUT I STILL FEEL THERE IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WITH THIS TIRE. HAVE YOU RECEIVED OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS?*AK (DOT NUMBER: DA42 TIRESIZE: 160/80B16)
