The 2022HONDACR-V HYBRID carries 106 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 17 crashes, 3 fires, 4 injuries, and 0 fatalities. For crash performance, NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program gave this cohort an overall 5/5 rating, with 5/5 front crash, 5/5 side crash, and 4/5 rollover scores derived from standardized barrier and dynamic tests.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2022 CR-V HYBRID is electrical system with 21 filings, followed by unknown or other (12) and forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking (9). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 3 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 1 investigation file overlapping the 2022 CR-V HYBRID, and 1 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

My car quickly became unable to be driven safely when the steering started to fail. It started with a feeling of the tires sticking to the road when trying to make small adjustments to position with the steering wheel. I was not able to maintain a straight line drive without the constant small jerks associated with the sticky feeling. The steering quickly deteriorated to the point of barely being able to keep the car on the road because of the inability to steer. The issue was confirmed by the dealer and the driveshaft components replaced, at my expense. I was told that there is a known defect in the 2022 CRV hybrids but my VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. There were no warning lamps or messages during the failure.

My 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid began displaying multiple warning messages around February 2025: “Transmission System Problem,” “Blind Spot Info System Problem,” and “Emission System Problem.” The issue was eventually traced to incorrect transmission fluid used from the time of purchase. A diagnostic report confirmed widespread internal transmission damage (e.g., shift solenoids stuck, low fluid pressure, excessive clutch slippage). As the transmission failed, it overwhelmed the vehicle’s main computer (PCM), causing a breakdown in the F-CAN network and disabling connected safety systems like the blind spot monitoring and emissions modules. The drivability of the vehicle deteriorated rapidly—gear shifting became rough and unpredictable. The car began struggling to accelerate above 40 mph, especially during inclines or highway merges. This posed a safety risk not only to me but also to passengers and other drivers due to reduced control and system failures. I rely on this veh

As I was backing out of a driveway the car suddenly accelerated in reverse. The brake did not stop or slow the vehicle. As a result the car's right fender hit a large oak tree. There was damage to the fender, the door and to the undercarriage. In addition, my wife who was sitting in the passenger seat was thrown back and she struck her head on the top seat belt connection. She had a cut in the back of her head that required an emergency room visit to the local hiospital. They did a CAT scan and they used seven staples close the wound. There were several messages flashed on the dash that indicated brake and cruise control issues. These messages wer of very short duration and could not be recazlled.

While driving at highway speeds (60-70 MPH), vehicle showed blinking check engine light, indicating a misfire. Pressing the gas pedal did not provide power to the wheels, though the engine was still running and revved up. My safety and that of those around me was in danger due to my inability to continue to maintain speed. I had to coast while pulling over to the side of a freeway. I turned the car off and turned it on and the issue appeared to resolve itself with no light on the dash. Took the vehicle to an independent service center, who would not look at the vehicle since the error code would not show from a cleared code. Told me to hope it was a 1 time issue and to stop back by with the light blinking. However, this will not be possible since I get no acceleration when the issue persists. The issue has not been reproduced, nor do I intend to attempt to reproduce it due to the safety issues involved with losing the ability to accelerate while traveling at high speeds on the freewa

life Safety Issue! Four times since Feb. 2025 the check engine light comes on and the car loses power and goes into limp mode. The car has been to the Honda Mall of Georgia service department 3 times, and they are unable to determine the problem because no error codes are ever found. On 4-24-2025 they recommended a valve adjustment as a possible fix which I agreed to and paid for. The car did run better, however on 5-21-2025 the car stalled while I was going 70 mph on an interstate hwy. while I was in the middle lane. I was able to coast to the shoulder, shut the car off and then restart. Not knowing when or where the car will stall while driving is a major safety issue!

Body control module failed and car was inoperable. Car still under warranty and dealer replaced body control unit. This should be a recall, not a critical piece that must fail. Honda would not have replaced if not under warranty

20250414FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

There have been several times where my forward collision warning goes off when I am just driving along an open highway with no other vehicles nearby and no precipitation. In broad daylight. Another time, a car in front of me slammed on their brakes. There wasn't enough time for me to come to a complete stop, so I navigated my car to the shoulder (I was only going about 30 mph to begin with). However, while I was turning the steering wheel, the Automatic Emergency Braking system engaged, making it impossible for me to turn the steering wheel further. I missed the car in front of me by only and inch or two. If I would have hit that car, it would have been because the AEB system locked up my steering wheel and made it impossible to control my vehicle.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) independently activated the brakes without another vehicle being nearby. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and continue driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Steering will stick when turning and require additional force to correct. This is a safety hazard as steering could become stuck or result in overcorrection and leading to an accident.

Hi, I've owned this vehicle brand new, 21 miles. I purchased from the dealership. It now has a blown head gasket at 85 k miles. I've spoken to 3 dealerships that have said this is a common problem. I obviously do a lot of driving early morning and late night. This could have been a big safety issue in the dark. I've done all my services on time and even earlier than needed. I hope you can do research on this. Thank You, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

It happened twice so far, while driving on the Highway, suddenly the car would no longer respond to the accelerator pedal and the car started losing speed meanwhile the warning lights flashes on the dashboard., In a panic we had to cruise to park on the highways shoulder. shut the car off thinking the car may have overheated or something, then restarted the engine and the dashboard was very normal, we proceeded to drive cautiously to mechanic, the mechanic found no error code to lead him to any diagnoses. The car drives normally after each incident. we are very concerned that this event could happen in critical situation and cause accident or the faulty component may causing this issue may lead to other more serious power train trouble that will not be covered by warranty in the future. by searching online, we found too many owners have had the same experience but we solution was offered by Honda. We urge you to investigate and help owners to be safe on the roads.
