I WAS DRIVING DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET IN MY 1996 HONDA CIVIC WHEN A 2004 GMC YUKON SUV CAME HURLING AROUND THE CORNER OF AN INTERSECTING STREET AHEAD OF ME. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 40 MPH. THE CONSUMER HIT THE BRAKES, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. HE FINALLY WENT OFF THE ROAD INTO A GARDEN AND HIT A WALL. CIVIC HAD BEEN PARKED FOR ABOUT 24 HOURS AND WHEN I LOOKED OUTSIDE MY APARTMENT WINDOW IT WAS ON FIRE. THE FAILURE SEEMED TO START IN THE DASH WIRING SOMEWHERE. THE FIRE STARTED THERE AS THE MOST DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE FRONT PORTION OF THE CAR AND THE DASH WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS NOT DAMAGED, THE REAR SEAT WAS DAMAGED BUT NOT DESTROYED BY FIRE COMPLETELY, AND THE TRUNK WAS UNTOUCHED. GEAR SHIFT WAS STUCK AFTER VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON WHILE SITTING AT A RAILROAD CROSSING. WHEN THE MOTOR WAS TURNED ON, THREE MINUTES LATER, THE GEAR SHIFTER JAMMED. THE CONSUMER THEN PLACED THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BOLTED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE WHICH WAS TRAVELING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.
