IN ADDITION, THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE (EBCM) HAS JUST FAILED; IF A BRAKE FLUID LEAK OCCURS, THERE WILL BE NO WARNING OR INDICATION PRESENTED BY THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO STOP. GM HAS STATED THAT ANY REPAIRS FOR THESE SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD CONDITIONS WOULD NEED TO BE PAID OUT OF POCKET, WITH AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $2500. 2005 GMC YUKON XL 1500. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO AIR BAG MALFUNCTION DURING ACCIDENT. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE AND HIS WIFE WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON DECEMBER 6, 2013. THE VEHICLE WENT A PROLONGED SKID ON BLACK ICE, SPUN AROUND SEVERAL TIMES, AND STRUCK A GUARDRAIL HEAD-ON. THE SUPPORT POSTS BROKE, AND THE VEHICLE WENT AIRBORNE, CLEARING OVER THE TOP OF THE GUARDRAIL AND TRAVELED A DISTANCE OF 40 FEET THROUGH THE AIR, LANDING ABOUT 30 FEET BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE ROADWAY IN A MUDDY PASTURE, IN TREES ON ITS WHEELS. THE VEHICLE MESSAGE CENTER WILL DISPLAY "SERVICE 4WD," AND A CLICKING SOUND CAN BE HEARD AS THE LIGHTS ON THE TRANSFER CASE CONTROL PANEL SWITCH ON AND OFF, SWITCHING THE VEHICLE IN AND OUT OF GEAR. SEVERAL TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE TRUCK SHIFTED INTO 4LO AT MODERATE SPEED. ONCE, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN AN INTERSECTION WITH THE ABRUPT SHIFT. I AM CONVINCED THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMATIC ISSUE WITH GM 4WD TRUCKS, BUT IT IS IN NO WAY BEING ADDRESSED. IT IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD WHEN A 5400 LB. DURING ACCELERATION AND OCCASIONALLY DURING BRAKING, THE WHEEL SENSOR(S) CAUSE THE TRACTION CONTROL TO BECOME ACTIVE, OR CAUSE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES TO ENGAGE. IN ALL CASES, ACTIVATION IS IN ERROR BASED ON AMBIENT CONDITIONS. I AM ABLE TO OVERRIDE THE TRACTION ACTIVE PROBLEMS BY DISABLING THE TRACTION ASSIST, BUT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ARE NOT CONTROLLED BY THE SAME SWITCH. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND NUMEROUS EXAMPLES OF THE SAME FAILURE WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE, BUT NO RECALL EXISTS YET FOR THIS PARTICULAR YEAR AND MODEL. TO DATE, THE FAILURE HAS NOT CAUSED A CRASH, BUT NOW THAT WINTER IS HERE I HAVE TO MAKE REPAIRS BECAUSE DISENGAGING THE TRACTION ASSIST IS NOT PRACTICAL IN SNOWY CONDITIONS. MY MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT IT REQUIRES CHANGING THE FULL FRONT WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY BECAUSE OF CORROSION BUILDUP ON THE TONE RING. INCIDENT DATE: FRONT CABIN / IN DASH FIRE 11/25/2011 AT 5:20PM VEHICLE: 2005 GMC YUKON XL SLT WITH APPROXIMATELY 120K MILES VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY; HAD JUST BEEN DRIVEN HOWEVER THE ENGINE WAS OFF; 15-30 MINUTES LATER HEARD LOUD BANG AND GLASS BREAKING; FRONT CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES; OPENED DOORS AND SPRAYED WATER ON UNTIL FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT THERE. INSURANCE COMPANY HAS REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE REMAIN AT PLACE OF INCIDENT UNTIL ADJUSTER CAN INVESTIGATE. FIRE DEPARTMENT BEST ASSUMPTION AT THIS POINT IS THAT THIS WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE THAT STARTED SOMEWHERE IN THE DASH BETWEEN THE FRONT CENTER CONSOLE AND THE STEERING COLUMN. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNER; BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW; NO AFTERMARKET OPTIONS; OTHER THAN TIRES AND BRAKES, ALL ORIGINAL MFTR EQUIPMENT, ALL WARRANTY WORK DONE AT GMC DEALERSHIP. WE HAVE EXTENSIVE DOCUMENTATION WITH GMC FOR ALL WARRANTY ISSUES SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED MANY OF WHICH HAVE BEEN ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. EXAMPLES ARE STEER
