The 2005GMCYUKON carries 101 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 7 crashes, 3 fires, 14 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2005 YUKON is electrical system with 18 filings, followed by service brakes (11) and electrical system: instrument cluster/panel (9). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 5 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle, the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 2 investigation files overlapping the 2005 YUKON. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page, a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

WHEN DRIVING MY TRUCK THE TRACTION CONTROL COMES ON FREQUENTLY WHEN IN MOTION. SOMETIMES IT EVEN COMPLETELY DOESN'T MOVE FOR A FEW SECONDS EVEN WHEN GIVEN GAS THEN LURKS FORWARD, WHICH FRIGHTENS ME BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHICH COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I'VE BEEN READING UP ON THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS PRETTY COMMON, THIS IS ALARMING THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN PUT INTO EFFECT! BESIDES THAT MY TRUCK RUNS BEAUTIFUL, WHAT CAN I DO? THIS IS AN ONGOING THING.

LOST BRAKES COMPLETELY. THE WAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN THE CLUSTER OF BRAKE LINES IN FRONT OF ABS MODULE DUE TO RUST WHICH LEFT A PUDDLE CONTAINING ALL OF THE BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND. LUCKILY THE VEHICLE WAS IN A CHURCH PARKING LOT WHEN IT HAPPENED AND A SUDDEN STOP WAS NOT NEEDED FROM A HIGHER SPEED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN BAD IF THAT WERE THE CASE. TOO BAD GM DID TO SPEND A FEW EXTRA DOLLARS ON RUST-PROOF BRAKE LINES GIVEN HOW EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS THEY ARE.
