The 2004GMCYUKON carries 186 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 7 crashes, 2 fires, 11 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2004 YUKON is electrical system: instrument cluster/panel with 31 filings, followed by service brakes (27) and electrical system (25). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 4 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle, the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 2 investigation files overlapping the 2004 YUKON. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page, a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

My kids and I was on the interstate and all of sudden my yukon reduce engine power.Dropping to 30 in a speed zone of 70.I was very afraid for our safety and appreciate there concerns for reducing engine power to save the truck, but that's very dangerous. So I paid to replace the throttle body and gas pedal cause that was the codes for the problem. But it's still doing the same thing and I don't have money to keep buying parts.Plus it a gm problem and I really need some help with the fixture..

GM IGNITION SWITCH RECALL: GMC REFUSES TO HONOR THE RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE ON BOTH MY SUV'S. I CAN'T BE PART OF THE CLASS ACTION UNTIL THESE REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE, WHAT A SCAM. I OWN 2 GMC YUKON'S SLT AND BOTH QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF FROM GMC. NEITHER CAR EVER GOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE AND LOCAL DEALERSHIPS REFUSED TO DO THE REPAIRS AT NO COST.
