Within that volume, owners reported 2 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2000 TAHOE is service brakes, hydraulic:antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip with 4 filings, followed by steering (1) and electrical system (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.

NHTSA currently has 2 investigation files overlapping the 2000 TAHOE. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. THE LAST GMC RECALL FOR VEHICLES THAT SHUT OFF WHEN DRIVEN OVER A BUMP, RAILROAD TRACKS, ETC. DID NOT INCLUDE 2000 TAHOE. I COMPLAINED CONSTANTLY FROM 2000 TO ~2012 OF THE PROBLEM. I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT SINCE THEY COULD NOT RECONSTRUCT THE COMPLAINT BY DRIVING A COUPLE OF BLOCKS, THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ESSENTIALLY, THEY WERE TELLING ME THAT A PROBLEM DID NOT EXIST EVEN AFTER I FIGURED OUT THAT IT WAS HAPPENING NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN GOING OVER THE SAME SMALL BUMP ON A MAJOR ROADWAY, ~3 FEET FROM A MAJOR INTERSECTION. THE CAR AND MY HEART WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF FOR NUMEROUS SECONDS LEAVING ME WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO STEER OR STOP. WE WERE JUST FORTUNATE THAT WE WERE NEVER HIT FROM BEHIND AS MANY TIMES THAT IT HAPPENED. THE DEALERSHIP STILL CONTINUED TO TELL ME THAT A PROBLEM DID NOT EXIST. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS SO HAPPY TO FINALLY GET RID OF THAT VEHICLE. *TR
